The forecast for next week is starting to come around a bit, Looks like after this weekend we will see at least 5 days of below freezing temps during the day and lower teens at night and that is for the southern part of the state, can expect all those values to be at laest 10 degrees colder up north, Now bring on the moisture!!!!

(State College, PA) - Winter is finally making an appearance, with snow forecast today from the Great Lakes to the southern Appalachian Mountains. Arctic air moving into the Northwest tonight will bring snow to Seattle and Portland, the first shot of true winter weather that will spread across the nation in the upcoming week.
The Alberta Clipper today moving through East will create more lake-effect snow to the lee of the Great Lakes and snow in the higher elevations of the central Appalachian Mountains. Cold air following the Clipper will push temperatures in the East down to near seasonable levels. Later in the week, the brief shot of winter will be replaced with more warm weather before a pattern change brings a real taste of winter to much of the nation.
Tonight, cold air will pour out of Western Canada into the Pacific Northwest, bringing overnight lows in Seattle and Portland down to or below freezing. The rain will turn to snow overnight; however, there will be little accumulation of snow along the coast.
By later this week, the coldest air will be centered over the Rockies and the northern Plains. Its arrival in the mountains will bring another round of snow to Denver and the Front Range on Friday, before the core of cold pushes to the south and east, likely arriving in the East by the middle of next week.
City Wed. Thurs. Fri. Sat. Sun. Mon. Tues.
Seattle, Wash. 37 35 32 35 38 41 43
Great Falls, Mont. 30 2 4 11 3 20 25
Denver, Colo. 50 33 23 21 13 20 28
Kansas City, Mo. 54 46 33 31 20 23 26
Chicago, Ill. 38 42 39 33 28 24 21
Pittsburgh, Pa. 28 47 50 52 49 39 35
Unlike recent weather patterns when cold air has been quickly replaced by unseasonable warmth, the upcoming cold shot will remain in place across most of the nation through the latter half of January. According to Chief Long Range Forecaster Joe Bastardi, the weather from mid-January through mid-February could mimic the winters of 1957-58 and 1965-66. Those winters began with warm conditions before finishing with cold and stormy weather.
Bastardi says in a worst-case scenario, the country will experience a repeat of the winter of 1977-78. After a tepid start, that winter was remarkable for its cold and storms, including three powerful blizzards in the Northeast. "Those who think that winter 2006-2007 is going to remain mild are in for a shock. Winter is likely to come with a vengeance. A week from now, we'll start seeing truly cold air across much of the country, and we expect this change to last."
Bastardi believes that if the change in the weather pattern reaches its full potential, the onset of cold weather could result in "one of the top-five coldest 30-day stretches in the past half century."

yhea, and i bet if you fart in the norther most section of your house it will creat a down draft pattern therefor pulling the jetstream into a thermostatic pressure in turn bringing in cold weather freezing all major lakes, ponds ect, and will dump aproximetly 6-12" per day of snow for the next 3 days, with flurries over night accumulating to 1" per night of fresh snow untill the winter is over. :brrrr:
id like if he was right, but who knows.

This pattern is expected to break through the next week or two. The jet stream is expected to migrate southward toward the southern states. This will open the door and allow cold air from Canada to pour southward on a much more frequent basis. There are even some signs that a connection will be established across the North Pole so that Siberian air may be able to get involved at least to a limited extent. This is significant because air masses in Siberia typically are colder than air masses over northern Canada. The bottom line is that it will turn colder across a large portion of the nation by next week. It is still too early to tell if this will be a lasting change.

Snowstorms from the Rockies to the East
Tuesday, January 09, 2007
I AM STARTING TO JOIN THE PATTERN CHANGE CAMP, BUT I AM NOT FULLY CONVINCED ... I DO SEE PLENTY OF COLD AIR COMING AND WITH THE COLD AIR, THE SNOW TRAIN IS LEAVING THE STATION ...
The reason I am leaning toward the pattern change, I was looking at some things with J.B. yesterday, and while I am not totally convinced that the pattern will lock into cold, I am convinced that we are going to get some extremely cold weather over a large part of the country, especially the northern Rockies, northern Plains and Great Lakes. Even the East is going to get cold next week, and this time, the air mass coming in will be cold enough for snow. No more marginally cold air mass; this is true arctic air coming down. In fact, temperatures will get back to at least normal next week if not below normal in the East.
As for the Carolinas and Southeast, I think that is where the fight of near-normal to above-normal temperatures will occur. The ridge may try to hold its ground, and while sneaky cold air will come in, unless precip. falls, temperatures may remain above normal.
As for snowstorms, in the video I showed you two snowstorms over the next 7-10 days. The first storm will bring snow through Utah, Colorado and Wyoming late this week and early this weekend. Denver will get another 6 inches of snow. Snow will then move into Kansas and Nebraska, then streak through Iowa into Wisconsin with amounts of 3+ inches. That storm moves into Ontario and the cold air spreads into the East.
The southern branch of the jet stream becomes active next week, and with all the cold air just sitting around, one can see how a major snow and ice event starts in Texas early in the week, then spreads into the Tennessee Valley by midweek, and the mid-Atlantic and New England by the end of the week. I think this is the first true shot at snow for many folks who have not had any snow this year. Even the major cities along the I-95 corridor finally have a shot at snow late next week. That storm will become the focus as we go through the rest of this week and into the weekend, because it may be a major disruption to travel over a large part of the country.
