MILLINOCKET, Maine -- Some people continue to ignore Maine game wardens' warnings about thin ice. The latest incident happened Friday in Ferguson Lake near Millinocket.

Millinocket firefighters in cold-water rescue suits saved a 20-year-old snowmobiler from drowning after he fell through thin ice shortly before noon Friday.

Officials said Jonathan Thibodeau of Medway was badly hypothermic but still conscious when he was hauled to safety. They said he was with a group of ice fisherman when he sped away on his snowmobile.

The ice was one inch thick where he broke through.

Warden Andrew Glidden said the incident underscores why Mainer should stay off lakes, ponds and streams during a mild winter.

Yeah it takes a real brain trust to be on that lake in the area that he was. The river dumps in right there!!! Just another person who didn't know the area.
