Do shock covers serve any purporse? If they are just for looks i think the look of the spring is way more appealing

They help keep water, ice and snow from getting past the seals and making the shocks wear out faster!

Do you know how much they actually help?

ie....will they help the oil in the shock stay clean for an extra year?

On another post they were mentioning that shock covers hold moisture (water and salt) in and around the shocks and actually are bad for the shocks, with corrosion and pitting with road salt.
They help keep some debris out of the shock, but you'd probably notice a branch big enough to do damage sticking in there.

and ive heard , with hard mogul type riding ,the shock dosent dissapate heat and will fade faster[thinner oil]
