Mid Range
Brett Anderson(Canadian Weather Expert) from Innacuweather says.......

January will be a transition month, but it will take time

I believe we may will start to see a gradual large scale change in the North American weather pattern beginning in the middle of the month and those changes will continue to evolve through the end of the month. At this time, I suspect February may end up looking a lot different weatherwise across Canada compared to what it was in December.

Quebec: The early part of the month will turn out mild with below-normal snow and rain. Mid-month will turn out more stormy with above-normal snowfall across southern Quebec and normal for the north, while temperatures will still be slightly above-normal. The late month turns much colder with some arctic invasions. Snowfall will be slightly above-normal late month.

In the meantime........another mild spell on the way this week.

I'm even starting to believe it.... the grass is green and growing....crocus and daffodils currently have been sprouting up ...very weird for this time of year...even noticed some nightcrawlers in the yard the other night while it was raining.

Are you saying the grass is growing up in the Lac St. Jean area????? I thought that was the only place with open trails...
Too Slow
No no...not at Lac St Jean....down here in southern New England...Ct...last year had enough snow to be riding at this time.
rijoed
Oh, same here in PA. We only received maybe an inch or two all season, which of course is gone. We started to see some freezing of the lakes and ponds, but that is all gone. This sucks....

I'm trying to keep a positive attitude but when I look at the 14 day forcast it's making me nervous. Today I saw the documentary "An Inconvienent Truth" with Al Gore. I highly suggest if your interested in weather and global warming you should see it. Very interesting and very scary. :beerchug:
srpigeon
I also am trying to stay optimistic, but am getting quite frustrated with this s*it :banghead: . Got a new sled and itching to get a out. People here in Toronto are still ridding their motorcyles :frech32: . Nothern Ontario isn't much better, slightly colder but still no snow.
My buddies and I are planning maybee going to the Saint-Zenon area in the next couple of weeks if thing don't look better here. The trails there are opened, but I read they are quite icy in the corners. A French tourist wipped out and killed one of their guides. Pretty sad news. We figure it would take us 8-10 hours to get there from here, but well worth it if we get some decent ridding in

Still trying to stay positive, in the meantime... :beerchug: :drunk: :burp:

I'm sorry, I have to weigh in on this one..
Al Gore is a wack job pure and simple.. He lost his marbles after the 2000 election.
It's too bad, because I actually liked him as a Senator in the 80's and 90's.

He takes the doomsday scenario on everything, he even said that what is portrayed in the movie "the day after tomorrow" was possible in our lifetime until he was slammed by most scientists. And in his film, he never offered an opposing view.

You have to understand that there are many more factors involved in the Global warming movement, some political, and most economic (read $$$).
I have a hard time believing any study verbatim, especially when it is said that more research ($$$) is needed.
The world in general doesn't care about science anymore, they seem to be more interested in the latest Britney and Paris escapade.
In reality, people last cared about science during the space race. Researchers realize the Global warming issue is a potiential cash-cow.

Now, I do believe warming is happening, but I seriously doubt the effect humans have on its cause AND cure. There are many more factors involved that just Greenhouse gases. Things such as the jet stream and the solar sunspot cycle all play significant roles in what we see on the ground.
We only have RELIABLE records for the last 150 years or so. I just don't think that is enough is come to a conclusion.

Should we cut back on greenhouse gases? sure, but understand that the entire world would have to join in to even have a chance of making a difference, even then, I doubt the ability of making a significant impact. Excusing "developing countries' (as in the Kyoto agreement) and looking the other way when China has no intention of following anything will unfortunately torpedo the effort.
We should still cut back on emissions, but with the understanding that any effect will be minimal.

Typical american in denial. I guess you voted for Bush. Why don't you open your fucking eyes buddy. Maybe Gore is a whack job but at least he's trying to do something. I guess you think he made up all that data, have you even seen the show!!!!!!!! :frech32:

You guess wrong buddy (typical stereo-typing ASSumption)... I voted for Gore (but held my nose doing it). I voted for a 3rd party candidate (libetarian) in '04.
I've seen parts of his movie and enough interviews with Gore to get the gist of it.

BTW, Did you read MY fucking post, wanker?
I said warming is happening, but not at the doomsday rate that AL Gore is stating...
I ALSO said we should reduce emissions, what part of that don't you understand??
Do I need to find you a translator??

What all of the doomsayers have NOT addressed is how much we can REALLY do about it.
And what to do with China if they don't comply with reduction agreements (which they will NOT).

Every time I ask about how much we can slow the warming and the China issue I get DEAD silence from the Greenies, because they can't answer the questions.
Oh wait, maybe they can.. but they'll need more research money and they'll be looking in my pocket to get it.

Although, who knows, Electric sleds may be here before we know it. I saw some tests done and with the right motor, its damn impressive. Its also too quiet!

Sorry but when you said "I seriously doubt the effect humans have on the cause" It sounded like your maybe a little bit in denial, and probably a bigger wanker than most. When you say stupid shit it makes you look stupid. The fact that you haven't even seen the show but know more about it than people who have just shows what kind of know it all idiot you are.

China is not a factor, we in the US make a huge impact.

Americans make up just 4 percent of the world's population, we produce 25 percent of the carbon dioxide pollution from fossil-fuel burning -- by far the largest share of any country. In fact, the United States emits more carbon dioxide than China, India and Japan, combined.

How many ice ages and warmings has the Earth gone thru in its History?
According to the scientists you hang your existance on, many...(the same scientists that predicted an ice age in 1975)
How long have we been contributing in "big ways" to the Greenhouse gas issue? Maybe 400 years?? or less?
Geez, without the evil industrialists damage, it has happened before and whether you want to believe it or now, regardless of what we do, it WILL eventually happen again.

Know it all? LOL! You view one movie and you take it in hook, line, and sinker. I like to do a little work before I form an opinion.

The fact you haven't bothered to answer my questions (geez why do I ask questions when I'm a "know it all"?), and the fact the none of your brethren have answered them either, proves you (and they) don't it all as well.

Bullshit!
We do make an impact, the most , no doubt.
And actually you are wrong on your statement regarding the US emitting more co2 than china,Japan and india combined .
Take a look for yourself
http://www.ucsusa.org/global_warming/scien...-emissions.html

According to the statistics listed above, the most recent I could find, China emits about 63% of the US output of CO2. And since then the gap has most likely closed because the Chinese Industrial complex had grown at pace far exceeding the US.

If you don't think China is a factor, you either haven't been paying attention to World Economics or you haven't been there.
China is the fastest growing economy in the world, period.
I have been to China (in 2004) and I can tell you they power themselves with some of the most filthy poluting coal plants I have ever seen.
Think belching Industrial revolution factories, times two. And WE do NOT have accurate statistics regarding Chinese emissions. These statistics are supplied by the Chinese government (which I won't trust)or the Independent researchers who NEVER get near anything dirty, believe me. If you work for American Industry, they'll know when you eat, sleep and crap within 12 hours of entering China.

By the way this is the first time in my life on Jan. 03 the lake near my place still has not frozen over, and this makes me worry about the kind of world we are leaving for our children. So you just keep blowing off the evidence as some nut bags doomsday scenario, and I'll keep hoping that people like you take this problem as seriously as all people on planet earth should, and we will leave it at that. :beerchug:

O.k. Einstein I cant help myself. Do you know the difference in population between China and the U.S. I don't think your quite as smart as you think. So a country with 5 times the population only puts out 63% of emissions and your point is? Shane
Gentlemen,

May I add the following. Whether you believe in "Global Warming" or not, there a few things that we all "must" agree upon. First, pollution needs to be reduced. However, I think that politicians are attacking the wrong subset of the populace in their "war". We must also agree that it is rather egregious that the folks banging the loudest drums are some of the biggest contributors. Rosie O'Donnel openly admitted that she has several SUVS and vans as well as drivers. In fact she stated that she didn't even know how many cars she had. Al Gore and others travel by private plane and motorcoach of SUVs. Again, rather hyocritical.

However, we MUST also realize that a few million years ago this earth was covered by miles of ICE! How did that melt? Greenhouse gases? If so, they were certainly not produced by humans. This is clearly evidence that the planet goes through many many cycles. Weather is one of the more obvious to the eye changes it endures.

In conclusion, we all should do our part to keep the earth a clean place, but not to the degree of radicalism that is being proposed by the left.

P.S. Just think. If we all stopped riding two strokes we would all be on YAMAHAS! :fluffy:

I guess since you've been to China you know better right. I'm sure all the coal burning plants in the U.S. being not as dirty as the Chinese ones makes them O.K. dunno.gif :frech32:

I think we are closer in opinion then you think:

We both agree that is happening
We both agree that something needs to be done about it
We both do our part in polluting by using internal combustion engines - autos, trucks, snowblowers, sleds.

Where we differ is which scientist or study to believe.
And possibly the end-result of a drastic curb of emissions.
The cynic in me just doesn't believe in a total world commitment to the reduction, if we had world commitment on anything we could have solved nuclear proliferation and the mid-east crisis years ago.

The optimist in me says that someone in the free market will produce renewable, affordable, clean energy.
Humans survived the last major climate shift, and we'll survive this one too.

It may not sound like it to you, but I am concerned as well. I'm heading up your way in late january because we have no snow in NY, although the jet stream has done us in this year. And have kids too, and I want a good world for them.

As I said, I am a Cynic, I immediately think when I hear both extreme sides of an issue; "what is their angle(usually money or power) and why should I believe them at face value"

I also wonder what would be of North America if the biggest polluter in the world weren't around 60 years ago. I have feeling the North American Continent would be speaking a Germanic language, but it would not be English.

All I was doing in that post was de-bunking a post that :
1. Gave a false statement and
2. dismissed the 2nd biggest emitter of co2 as a non-factor.

I was going to quote my post so you could see the first thing I said was we (the US) are the biggest polluter, but if you didn't read it the first time, why would I expect you to read it the second time around? Geez...

And remember until China finally woke up as far as an Economy in the early 90's, it was a big agricultural country for its History. To go from nothing to 63% of a 150 year old industrial economy in 20 or so years gives you a clue of where they will be in another 20.

Yes the health care is nice to have, but unfortunatly you get what you pay for and since we don't pay we don't get much. Lots of people in Canada die because of long waiting times for important tests. It's not like we don't have good doctors, we actually have some of the best in the world ,we just don't have enough of them. Gas cost about 1.00litre sometimes more sometimes less. I happen to agree with both of you. I definitely agree that something needs to be done about the worlds (and yes the USA) CO2 Emissions. My new vehicle has an E85 engine and I drive 30 miles to an E85 Station to do my very insignificant part. But I also dont think that the weather we see right now is a direct result of Global Warming. We are about to experience record temps tomorrow(Record of 64 degrees was set back in 1950's) Not much Global warming discussions then?????? What were they saying the reason for the warm temps were back then? Now one of you mentioned that you are looking at a lake that is not frozen as it normally is and that gives you concern because of your children and Global Warming? Do you think the people in BC who are only 20 Inches away from their yearly snowfall total in the first week of January are blaming Global warming?????? What about in Denver?????? Europe?????? Kazakhstan???? All experiencing colder than average winters. We in the North East unfortunately are the recipiants of a very cruel jet stream this first part of the Winter. And "Global Warming" is not an American or a Canadian issue. Its a World Issue. So lets all unite and do the International Northeast Snowdance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

nice post, but to be honest i'm tired of fighting some of the points you make. if you want to pursue other discussions take it to C/E. sorry but i truly am exhausted from it. my main point all along is just to make people aware, and try to force the energy companies to CLEAN UP THEIR ACT, and look at alternative energy. i'm not telling anyone to stop snowmobiling by any means, i love the sport but i would like some cleaner fuel choices. peace and let's hope we here in the north east get some snow soon.

There was a great article in one of the sledding mags recently about E85 & sleds. I'll post a link if I can find it online...E85 seemed like it won't be the answer, way more E85 needed to make similiar power when compared to gas basically eliminating any emissions & efficiency gains. Who knows only research & time will tell.
