Just wondering who had to bail, who got charged for the cancel date, and what lodging locationa actually worked with you in regards to to the weather?
Gotta be some advice out there now. :fluffy:

Come on snow!
partridgecabins
I own and operate Partridge Cabins. Told everyone the truth...not too hard...no snow, no trails open. Sent money back. Very simple.
There are, however, a few guest coming up to relax and unwind before they all go back to work on Tuesday. What else can you or we do?
For those that are here, we plan on doing a snow dance infront of a bon fire!

This really is WHERE WINTER COMES TO PLAY

Nice, very nice.

Bon fires and Zambuca creat visions of snow everytime.

Just as Partridge did we refunded a deposit because of trails not being open , and another guest decided to come anyways to relax and come the the Ridgerunners Turkey feed , Its only fair .

You do relize, that the way this winter, or lack of winter, I could have sold ice cream until...wait...TODAY! I think I would have made more money!
Opening again in May...unless, of course, we still have lots of SNOW, then I will still be riding!
ct_skidoo2
LOL.... We'll definately stop by during the summer. My son wants to do some quad riding so we are planning on another couple of days this summer. ylsuper.gif

I had to laugh a bit - when we were up there in July, one of the high's for the day was like 56 or 58. It has been over 56 here I can't count how many times this month..... :banghead: dunno.gif :frech32:

I have to say I'm pretty disappointed with Lopstick Lodge. I spoke to them earlier and they had stated that if we give them advanced notice for them to try and rent it out that they would refund us the money but if we canceled last minute that there would be no refund and would not transfer our deposit over for a future date. Now I'm not trying to bash them, but after reading all the supporting members on here giving refunds as they feel "it's the right thing to do" I don't think I will be back to Lopstick after this date.

I've rented from them 6 times in 4 years with an average group of 8-9 people and would think that they would be flexible with the lack of snow up there. After all, how many people will spend $2,000 in a 4 night, 5 day vacation with no show in February?? Chances of them renting out a $2k house are slim to none if the conditions stay like this so we are either forced to cancel within the next day or two or keep our reservation and lose out on the $350 if we cancel later.

I had expressed that I'm not looking to get my money back, rather just have them put it towards a future stay.

I'm a pretty reasonable guy.. what really gets me is the fact that they won't carry it over to another stay. unfortunately the house we rent (starlight cove) every year is always booked Jan-Mar. We always go up on a Sat and come back on a Wed and have the house maxed out with people. It's almost impossible to find a place that will hold 9 people that is actually a quality place. I was looking at another place off backlake but they were booked every weekend. I'll be giving them my $2,200 to Powder Horn going forward and see how they will treat us.
ct_skidoo2
Blwnsmoke, that is some serious jing your spending on lodging and a repeat customer - seems to me you didn't get treated right -esp if other lodges understood the situation and gave options for rebook or refund and again your a repeat customer. As I mentioned in an earlier post they are telling you what thier published policy is but it seems like they now lost a good repeat customer over a one night charge.

Only way to change the owners thinking is to take your business elsewhere. Perhaps they feel they can rent thier places out anyway and not worry about losing a customer.

I seem to have read several other good lodges who were more understanding and would be glad to have your reservation(s).

Yeah it's some big money which is even more of a reason to treat me like this. It all started 4 years ago with a small 6 person cabin.. I got my 2 sisters and their husbands into snowmobiling 2 years ago so we figured lets try to find a nice house that can fit all of us. the way the pricing works out, it only costs us about $40 more per person to stay at the gorgeous house we rent then to have 2 smaller cabins not nearly as nice. When we break it down, it's about $220 per person for the 4 nights which isn't bad considering we all get to be together.

Powder Horn has a gorgeous house on back lake that will fit 9 that is about $100 or so more for the stay. I'm definately going to book there for next year.. it's not the money, it's the principle.

I had an issue in November with Lopstick as well. I booked the house last May and they sent a letter with the rates and a confirmation. Their policy is to charge the one nights stay on Nov 15th regardless of when you book. So I got the the confirmation letter in Nov saying they charged my card the deposit was higher. I called and spoke to Lynn (the owner) and complained. She had said that their rates went up in July for the 2007 season. My one and only question to her was "why would you send me 2006 winter rates in May with the expectation to pay X price only to raise them on me and not tell me?". There response was something about "well we got hit with major oil costs last year from heating the places so we are adjusting for it for this year". I kept my reservation with a bad taste being left in my mouth. I even said, if I book a hotel room and give a deposit, they don't go ahead and charge me a more expensive price.. The price I booked at in my opinion should be the price I pay.

Now maybe I'm whining too much.. but it's very aggrivating.

Anybody have any experience with Powder Horn Lodge?

We've stayed there a couple of times. Great people, lots of parking, nice place to stay! These are tough times on tough people in the North. Last year we stayed in North Stratford, even though there was no snow, but it was still time away in an area we love to be. We have been carefull not to book too early, however when you do that you could miss out on opportunity.

I checked his website out. Doesn't talk much about cabins and no pictures or details about it. I'll have to call tomorrow and see what he has to say. Thanks for the recommendation.

The problem is unfortunately there is no shortage of customers when the conditions are good. They'll still rent everything out but it's not the right way to do business.

Just checked it out.. Looks extremely nice and definately love the "log cabin" look. However at $1,100 a night, it's way overpriced ($4,400 total). I'm staying in an equally beautiful house with 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, gas fireplace.. 3 floors.. for $2,200.

Hello, this year is not starting out with a bang , more like a fizzle. I to offered my customers an out with out a loss of deposit.(due to no trails open.) I did have to mention that if some one did come and stay that they would have first option next year as my policy is. We did offer a 50% rate break on anyone wanting to come and get away. most people still came and rode the lake and when they all left , they told us they had a great time and pleased that they came. We as a lodging facility do thank you for your patronage and do try to make things as fair as possible. We are still offering the same rate at 50% off if you need to come and visit this weekend. ( stay 2 nights and only pay for 1) now until jan 9 2007. The lake was hevaliy traveled last weekend . I will post on the race tread next. thank you CALL 1 866 538 6300.
