Tryin to figure out some positive for this terrible snowmobiling week. Looks like deaths on sleds are gonna be way down this year. Thank you mother nature

Actually, the Houghton Lake area has had 14 years on record of no snow between the holidays... the last being 1999. There were three times in the 90s (99, 94, 90) and three times in the 30s.

But for the WHOLE state is likely more unusual.

Can we return our unused trail permits? :banghead:

No snowmobiling related accidents is always a GOOD THING. I just hope the rest of the season { when it gets here } is accident free. :beerchug:

My uncle was talking to the guy who runs/owns Lost Pine by Cadillac last year and he said that he keeps a record of snow conditions for the week between the holidays as well. He said that the majority of years there is no rideable snow there either.


December in Michigan (lower penninsula at least) is a hit or miss month for snow and has been for some time. It just sucks even more than usual this year because it is so warm it doesn't even feel like winter out there.

Woman dies in snowmobile accident

By KRISTEN KOHRT Journal Staff Writer



MARQUETTE — A Minnesota woman was killed in a two-snowmobile accident early Saturday morning on Lake Gogebic in Gogebic County.

Michelle Huffman, 37, of Bloomington, Minn., was pronounced dead at the scene after her snowmobile collided with another operated by Wayne Helsten, 21, of Ishpeming around 1 a.m. Saturday, according to a press release from the Michigan State Police Wakefield Post. Helsten was taken to Grandview Hospital in Ironwood with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said the incident is still under investigation.

Also assisting at the scene were the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department, the Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Department, the Marenisco and Lake Gogebic fire departments, the Lake Gogebic and Beacon ambulance and the Gogebic County victim’s services unit
