I had an idle problem the first time out this year with my sons Indy Lite. I found that a spark plug cap was loose on the plug.

Upon inspection I found that the tip was stuck inside the cap and the threads on the spark plug (last seasons plug) were corroded and stripped, allowing the cap to go on normally but remained loose....strange.

Screwed a new plug into the plug end that was stuck in the cap to remove it...thanks SNOFAN for that. New plug installed, problem solved. :div20:

I always carry a small, long sheet metal screw in my tool kit for plug nut removal, from the spark plug wire cap.

If you can buy Solid Cap plugs (NGK has them in several range) get them, problem solved.

If you can't, then take two pliers and crank the plug end nut down hard onto the spark plug body, so the threads will not loosen, and get eaten up. XLT's were famous for doing this. They were easy on plugs, so the plugs were in there a long time.

Another trick is to lock tight them on.

Use sidecutters and put a slight crimp in the screw on cap, it will not be able to unthread.

that works good. you can also use a pin punch to deform it once its on too.
