My girlfriend wants to get a sport quad and I don't know too much about them so I figured I'd ask some fellow gearheads. Shes looking to spend around 4K and wants one that will last for quite awhile with out having to upgrade. If you have one for sale or hear about a good deal let me know. Thanks :celebrating:

for that price i would say a yamaha 450 or maybe a honda 450...you cant go wrong with the 450's

I love my raptor 700 is that matters...a little more than 4 g's though...

Problem is with those 450's those are more geared for racing and not general trail riding. You could look at the Honda 400 EX, 300 EX or the 250 EX, those are reliable trail models. Less maint and will last a long long time if taken proper care of.

I love my 700 KingQuad and race it like it's a sport quad grinning-smiley-023.gif

What does she plan on using it for, trail riding, racing?

well thats a matter of opinion. what do you consider proper gearing for trail riding? the first gear on the 400ex and 450r are the same, in fact they are "nearly" the same up until 4th gear...then the 450 runs away. my LTR-450 on the other hand tops out at 65 mph where the yamaha and honda top out around 75-80. if you drop one tooth on the front sprocket i think you will find the gearing you are looking for......and the 450's will last a long time too, buddy of mine i ride with has put over 2000 tanks of gas through his honda 450 and it runs fine still.

anyway the bottom line is if you like performance to any degree you will regret getting a 400ex or a warrior or a 300ex.....they are all slow and beat you to death when jumping or just bangin down the trail. i had the same opinion as you on the trail sport quads untill i bought my 450.....now ill never turn back.

trail, goofing off, just having fun...from what I've heard other places the YZF 450 sounds like a winner. Now I just have to find one.

Well, when your the service manager for a Honda dealership you see what comes in and why. You also hear all the opinions of your customers. I'm not saying the 450's aren't a great machine. They just aren't made for puttin around.
The 450 was bred for racing plain and simple. No different then taking a 440 sno pro and trail riding it. Sure, you can do it but it's not what it's meant for
The 450ER has abit tamer motor with electric start and non titanium valves for longer life expectancy.
Come by my service department,I'll be happy to show you a BUNCH of pistons from 450's from people who decided that Honda's reccommended maint was too much too often and decided not to do it.
It's kinda like the OLD Fram filter commercial.....you can pay me now or you can pay me later.

I'm partial to the Zuk 400 myself. Plenty of pep and has reverse.
I've got a white 05 with less than 20 hrs on it in Fairbanks. Didn't even get to ride it this year due to house/family stuff taking all my time.

Piped,Filtered, twist grip, used nerfs on it.
Still have thumber and factory pegs.

Had an LTZ400 myself, great lil machine with plenty of pep

Suzuki Z400 is a great buy. Look for a new, year old model. Reliability and performance can't
be beat. :div20:
