Does 95psi seem low for a 92 RXL with 3,000 miles ?

Yes. I dont know much about compression, but I believe anything under 100, its not good.

she should be around 120! time for rebuild or tear down

But, all 3 at 95 ?... doesn't that seem strange, like maybe bad gauge or something ?

Thats possible that its just the gauge. Or someone ran it low on oil once and burnt down some of the rings from friction. But if it does have 95 psi its not running to its full potential. Does it run like shit? or no

That is possible (the gauge being the problem) as i have run into that. One gauge read 100. one read 115 and a third read 125. The other thing i have also run across is when you have attachments on the end of the gauge (usually used to fit into hard to reach auto cylinder heads). One of these fittings was apparently leaking. My friend was unhappy his was reading 90 so he bought a gauge and it read 120. I took the fitting off mine and it read within a couple of 120 as well!
Be happy they are at least equal at this point. The same friend also has a 92RXL and he has 125, 110 and 90! NOw that's not good.

I'm looking at buying this motor out of the sled, sight un-seen...owner said it ran fine when pulled. What ya think ?

Well it depends on the price. What is he looking at getting out of it and what all comes with it? Also what are your plans with the engine? If you are getting it cheap enough they are still pretty cheap to rebuild. Let is know, Brian

I'm thinkin about going triple in my old 85 Indy chassis. motor comes with electronics, throttle bodies, exhaust manifold...basically everything still bolted to motor except clutch. I think I can buy it around $350. I'm also still hungup on do I want the extra weight of a triple vs a 6-700 2cyl. I can't seem to get an opinion on HP ratings between the 2 on other sections I've posted in.

Any single piped tripple will fall short of the more modern twins, plus you have the weight factor.

The rxl would be very reliable when left stock, alot of people dont do as recommended when storing these sleds for summer, as they are only used half of the year. most people only throw them in a garage or trailer and forget about them until it snows, then they expect the sled to just start up and be as reliable as it always was, well when this goes on for many years the injectors and sensors begin to fail. Just like a car, if you let it sit, it becomes shit. you need to run them every once in a while in the summer. but this is besides the point. You need a place for the battery and you need to run all of the electrical. its not hard but you need every piece to it including all the relays and computer, and voltage regs, it would be easier to throw on a set of carbs for cheap, ebay cost usually 40 bucks with shipping. The biggest trouble you will encounter is mounting the engine. I believe the bulkheads are completely different between the sleds. One is a tripple and one is a twin, there mounting for the bulkhead is way different. I could be wrong but thats what i remember when I was thinking of doing this exact swap. You could make it work if you get custom mounting straps that is if they are different. Yes U CON is right about the twins being better now than twins, but if polaris was still making tripples then you bet they would be kicking ass still. I dont think the 03 800 xcsp could beat the 03 800 xcr but i dont know for sure, its a matter of opinion i guess. As for weight goes, yes the tripples weigh more but if you look at power to weight ratio i think the tripple comes out on top. Somewhere on HCS there is a picture of a polaris tripple engine and a polaris twin engine that are on seperate scales and weighing the same. Most of the added weight is due to an increase of materials used in the bulkhead from the access torque and you have to keep in mind an extra carb(not much weight) and the access fluids and such, but it all adds up. Dont mean to go against what anyone said, But I hope this helps, Brian

Did you have throttle at wide opn when you did the test? Hot or cold?
I would run the engine then do another test to make sure. The fact you have all 3 at the same reading maybe your tester is low. Check another engine and see what reading you have.
