98 or 99 t-cat 1000 has fuel, spark is good, motor is fine, has vforce reeds, all are good, has psi pipes.Sled will run but it will not go to clutch engagement without stumbling and cutting out.bypassed kill switch and carb pickups still runs the same.tested spark with timing light, sparks fine but is intermittent at times.any ideas?cdi?

Check your Fuel lines. Maybe your running the carb bowls dry!

It is not a fuel starving issue because it will flood the motor with fuel while doing this and the plugs will be soaked.which leads me to believe that it is electrical.

Check the stator/cdi grounds by the recoil. Also, is the ground wire from the motor to the frame in good shape?

Oh boy. I've had this problem 4 or 5 times on my '94 and here is what I have found.

1. Check all of the ignition key terminals. They are made of cheap steel with no plating and corrode after just sitting all year...or years. Sand them and use dielectric grease to stop the problem in the future.

2. Check your main ground wire from the ignition where it attaches to the frame/chassis. Mine was broken internally and the sled would run just fine, cut out, I'd check things out and it would run again. I chased this one for 2 years.

3. Check the little square connector that comes out of your harness or ignition down by the Mag. I believe it has (on one side) 3 males terminals and 1 female. I've found that when this gets wet that it sometimes shorts out intermitently along the connector. Dielectric grease again.

4. If yours has a tether (not sure about your year) check that to see if you are closing the switch.

Hope that helps. I guarantee it's somewhere in the electrical system as I have had this issue with my T-Cat year after year after year...you get the point!

My 01 t-cat was doing the same thing even after I unhooked the the carb safty switch ended up being the the wire I unhooked was arcing on a piece if metal so I plugged then back and replaced the bushings in the throttle lever all is fine now :banghead:

I think it's all those MachZ's you've swallowed and chewed up over the years. You have to remove the exhaust cannister once in a while and shake it upside down so you get all those sleds out of there. They forget to tell you this in the owner's manual. I'm pretty sure this will take care of your problem. frech11.gif

Sorry guys, I just couldn't resist.

Sounds about like the same problem i am having with my 95 zrt 800, i replaced the stator and regulater, still doesn't run right. I did notice if i have the handwarmers, high beam, and brake light on it will take throttle :frech32:
Makes no sense???

I found a bad ground on the cdi box!!!! yay2.gif

TPS ...throttle postion sensor.

ZRT and TCATS were notorious for it!
