Ronder
Two ATV riders went through the ice on Round Lake near Nisswa, Minn., on Sunday morning, but only one made it out alive, the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office said.
Rescue workers pulled the body of a 21-year-old man from the water about 12:20 p.m., about 50 minutes after he and his companion broke through the ice. Family members identified the victim as Tyler Magnan, who lived north of Brainerd.

Kurt Doree, a firefighter with the Brainerd Fire Department, said that the second rider was able to climb out of the water, go to a fish house and call 911.

Neither Doree nor a Crow Wing County dispatcher knew the thickness of the ice.

"But it hasn't been cold enough," Doree said. "It was a needless loss of a life."

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources recommends that there be at least 5 inches of ice for snowmobile and ATV riding.

I was out on a bull dog lake for 3 hours sunday morning. This lake is south of brainerd and there was 6 inches of good ice but you should of herd it popin. The thing that gets me on my way home I drove right past round lake and there had to be 100 poeple out there fishing around 3:00. The lake was packed. There was even a 4 wheeler out on gull on hole in the day bay. Well maybe I will give it a few more days before I go back out..

Yes there are some houses out on north long.. The old black hole seems to have froze over. Who ever was causeing it must of stoped what they were doing!! Most of the houses on N long are on the big center part of the lake. I got the scoop on the kid that got killed on round. The other boy that fell in and lived is my uncles friends son. They were told to take the fourwheeler out to the house to go fishing and not to ride around. There are a few inlets and outlets to round. They didn't no the lake and drove over a thin spot and fell in. They tell me there is better than 8'' out there in most places. That was monday and I would guess there is not that much now it has been hot out. Play it safe out on the lakes up here..
