Just wondering if any of you guys know a good trail.

I have a camp just above the lake at Alvin R. Bush Dam and I want to be able to get to Cross Fork without going around the Hammersly Wild area. Does any one know of something that leads to the bridge at Leidy or at 144. I notice on the map that a lot of the land down that way by Kettle Creek is private. Are there any trails through there that sled friendly? We would like to get to some of the trails east of Tamarack and Cross Fork without wasting all of the day just getting there.

If you mean from over by like Sugar Camp Rd and that area there is no other way around. You have to go around the Hammersley Wild area. A friend of mine was involved in a camp over that way and your right you will spend most the day getting there. You would almost have to trailer to CF and hit the trail from there. When we ride that area we trailer over to Kettle SP and go from there otherwise we wouldn't have enough gas to get there and ride around.

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I'm a member of a camp that is right at the corner of clinton county, off montour rode. it's right on a pipeline. are you allowed to ride on those pipelines? I've never ridden up there.

I'm not real sure where you are there but for the most part yes you can. When we leave my place to ride to the Canyon we are on the pipeline almost the whole way. You can stop at about any bar/restaurant or store and they will have trail maps, the pipelines are marked and they ususally groom them too. I just looked at my map and you may not be that far from jrblauch so he will know better over there.

I can't say for sure but for the most part if you could it would be marked on that map. Just take a ride up and see if it's marked that you can or can't.

What do you use for maps ?Do you just print off DCNR site or is there a club that sells them. Mostly interestred in trying Grand Canyon this year. Does any other system join to the canyons trail?

here's where the camp is,

I have been on those pipelines before, but the only one I know to be approved for riding is up where Montour and Sugar Camp road come together. I think the network of smaller lines is a ride at your own risk type deal. I seem to remember that there is one that leads fron >Wycoff up to Montour with a nice size hill to climb.

Just about any store, restaurant, bar,or gas station have trail maps and they show all gas stops. Mostly all the trails up there connect. The small pic above is from the DCNR's Northcentral Trail map, some clubs also have a small private trail system map too.

I've only ridden that area twice but hope to this winter. They seem to usually be groomed and not alot of traffic over there. I think it's because your kinda isolated down in that corner. We usually tow from the cabin to Kettle Creek SP and ride from there when we hit that part, to far from gas to ride sleds over.

Not to butt in, but you should have plenty of gas to make it to cherry springs. Considering you are full at the start. I Have put in at the bottom of cooks run and shot over to Keeners at cherry springs, filled up and rode all over for the day. Its like 50 or 60 miles from bottom of cooks run to cherry springs. Just make sure you top off at Keeners before heading back. The bottom of cooks run is on route 120 about 5or6 miles past westport. The state has their shed there where they keep groomers. Yes it is a long ride around Hammersley Wild area, but the trails are usually good and not alot of traffic like polxc5 said. You can make good time.

I agree but we like to ride around over there, usually on Sundays so to leave CF and ride to there then back we'd be hurtin for gas and wouldn't get to spend much time riding around over there.

Let me know how you make out with the land owners. I looked at the map today and I think you might be able to boondock on the shorter side below your camp. We do a lot of our own trail cutting during the week when the traffic is low and we use the same short cuts every year. DCNR sets traps to catch us but they haven't yet. All in all it still calls for having a decent base in order to be able to climb some of those mountain sides.
