I am thinking Bear Notch or Twin as well for tomorrow. Where is everyone parking for Bear? The north side off 302 or SOuth side off 112?

If you want the straight scoop and any possible last minute info you should call the Saco Ranger Station at
(603)447-5448. Good group of guys there and they'll give you all the info you need, in particular if there is even enough snow to bother and the parking requirements that Legend700 reminded us of! :div20:
Let us know what the situation is! :fluffy:

Trails in WMNF open when there is a continuous 6" of snow cover, regardless of date. Like mentioned by shortfused, call ranger station to get right answer. Road may still have gates open and traffic using it! :frech32:
I know if I had the time to do it this weekend i would be loading up and heading there to try it out. :div20:

Where do you get this permit? And how can they ticket for something that is not readily (well at least by me) known?

call the ranger office, I though bear notch was a fee parking lot but may not be in the winter.

I called the Deli at the bottom of the Bear Notch Road and he said there was not enough snow up there. I heard about a foot fell in Twin Mountains. I will be there tomorrow to have the seasons maiden voyage.

It requires the parking pass in the Winter also. I can't believe there is much snow up there. We only had a dusting in Tamworth.

I rode it real early in 11/04 and there was just a dusting along the Kanc going to Baer Notch. At the gate where you park there was only 3-4" and just one set of sled tracks. We said f it let's go and found that just 1 1/2 miles up road there was about 12" of snow and actually a bit of frozen base under it. Elevation does wonders...found it to be some of best early riding I've ever done, course it helped to be the second and third sleds on it!!!

I went to the south end of bear notch road yesterday around 2pm, the gate was closed and maybe an inch or two on the road. Did not ride it to see if any additional snow at the higher elevation. However, I did go to Jefferson Notch, damn good desision, broke trail thru alot of fresh powder was fun.
