440's can be a lot of fun. I owned a 2004 440 sno pro that I trail rode only for a season. Here are some of the reasons they can be fun: Super light, they way it was clutched it felt like a rocket, this with the 1 3/4 track I could go just about anywhere. Tough took a hell of a beating. Simplicity, and no electronics.
Now here are some of the reason they suck: $4.50 gas (I am sure its more now), Tiny gas tank 6 gallons, pre mix oil, SUSPENSION will beat the hell out of you on normal trails. As long as your in the mountains your good, NO electronics can be a bad thing. No heat exchangers= overheating on long rides. Parts can be a pain in the ass to find and exspensive.
Hope this helps you.
And I rode hatchers pass a lot with mine and i never had a problem getting anywhere.

The answer to your question is "yes", it is a good all-around sled. You will be able to do a little bit of just about everything, but you will not have the sled that is the best at anything. It would be a perfect sled to figure out what kind of rider you want to be because you could try it all.

The main reason I ditched the 440 motor in mine was oil injection. Those race motors arent meant to be help wide open for extended periods. In some cases the oil injection cant be just bolted on, you have to drill out oil passages.
Race chassis with a consumer motor is the way to go for sure. :div20:

They work real good, but as has been said, you have to wrench on the motor to much. I've got an
F5 Sno Pro and it works awesome for all riding except highmarking. I play around in the powder/ mountains all the time and that sled does real well. And for a 500cc they have good power. Just something to consider if your looking to buy a sled...?

i really like my 05 iq. runs real good everywhere ive taken it. i didnt like the small gas tank and 7$ per gallon race gas so i bought the wicked tank and trail heads. i also had an atacc installed so no more jetting. after you do things like that they are pretty good sleds. pre-mix is a pain sometimes, but its not the end of the world.

They are awesome sleds when dialed in for how you ride. Stock, they are harsh ridong and very tippy and peaky for power. Dont hold it wide open for long or you will be doing rebuilds often. If anything get a 440 , sell the motor and put in a 600 or bigger and you have the ultimate do anything sled. Have fun :div20:
