I have a 03 Pro x 800 and wanted to slow down my idle. It idles at 3500 rpm after riding it down the trail. Someone on this forum said that it was running too lean in the idle circuit. I want to back off the fuel screws 1/2 turn out but I am not sure which ones are the fuel screws. There are to adjusters with white knobs on the end on the mag side of each carb. Are these them?? There is also one adjustment knob on the top of the rack system but I am pretty sure that is for adjustiong throttle play. Please help???

The 2 white knobs are your fuel screws. The one in the middle of the rack is your idle adjustment screw. Turning it counter clockwise will lower your idle. You should never play with the fuel mixture just to adjust the idle. m2c.gif

Like XC-8 said DO NOT use you fuel screws to adust you idle! fuel screws are mixture and if you play with it you will get poor performance and poor economy! use the screw in the area of the trottle cable to change curb idle!

Ok, now that we know were the fuel screws are. Does anyone know were there air screws are?

Yes, eightpilot, the fuel screws are what you are looking for. The idle adjustment will adjust idle but what you are seeking is a cure for the high idle that occurs after you have been running the engine hard and bring it down to an idle. This is a temporary lean condition that can be fixed by turning the fuel screws out to provide a richer mixture. Turn the screws (white plastic cap) counter clock-wise no more than a half turn at a time beware however that your low speed fuel economy will be slightly affected. You can also deal with this hot high idle by giving the engine half choke for an instant.

air screws are at the throat of the carb by the air box, hard to see but they are there.

Thanks Bluenose, that is what I am going to do. My normal idle is fine. It's when it gets below 10 degrees outside and I am running at trail or lake speed for awhile and come to a stop somewhere. I will back them off a half turn and see what I get. Thanks again
