Just got done installing an 01' 800 into my 600, had the piston update done before dropping it in. Can't get it to start. I put the front end up on crates in anticipation of getting the air out of the cooling system. Gave it a few tugs no start. Checked to make sure I had spark, looks perfect. Gave it a few more tugs nothing. Dropped it back down off of the crates, pulled a few, still nothing. Did I miss something in the install? I just hooked everything up, I'm 99% sure I have the fuel lines routed correctly from the fuel pump. I checked the carbs before installing and they looked perfect. Is there anything out of the ordinary to firing a fresh motor (my first time attempting this). HELP the snow is HERE! Thanks in advance.

May take several more pulls with dry float bowls. I just started from dry float bowls and it took at least 10 pulls, maybe more.

Any kinks in the fuel line? May want to check all the way from the tank to the carbs.

Pour some fuel oil mix into the pistons to get it to fire, then the engine pulse will get the fuel pump pumping and you should be good to go.

What I do, is use my air compressor to pressurize the the fuel tank. If you have an air compressor, back feed the vent hose with the A/C (it only takes a little bit). You can watch the fuel run thru the lines up to the bowls. Once the fuel has made it to the bowls, just remove your gas cap to release the extra pressure so you don't overload your needle & seat.

Thanks for the replies guys, I will try those tonight.

Using the fuel tank vent line to pressurize the system is a great trick to use any time you have empty float bowls. I use my lungs for that purpose instead of messing around with an air compressor and there is no worry about over loading anything and blowing out seals. It doesn't take much, especially if the fuel tank is full, but if the tank is less than half full you may have difficulty. teh fuller the better. Been there, done that.

Would I damage anything by pouring a little premix into the cylinders to get it to fire?
SNERTZERT900
No problem adding premix to cylinder. I use a funnel and a hose to presurize the tank to get the fuel in. the hose fits in the funnel and the funnel seals in the gas cap. if you can see the bubbles moving in the fuel lines the carbs arent full yet.

OK THIS IS MY BUDDIES PROCESS TO FIRE UP DRY-DRY SLED.

1. leave on enclosed trailer with 2 others.
2. veify it has K+N air filters(more power).
3. fire up compressor up to max pressure.
4. pressurize gas tank thru vent. make xtra sure it is pressurized to max.
5. pull on recoil. pow. backfire.
6. verify sled is on fire by lifting hood.
7. call 911. no first pull other 2 sleds off trailer asking wife to call 911.
8. pull the second sled off trailer verifying it is too on fire. throw snow on seat. fire wont go out. sled #1 an inferno.
9. back $40,000 tahoe to trailer as trailer too close to $400,000 home.
10. move trailer away from house
11. disconnect tahoe.
12 verify asphalt is melting on driveway.
13. call insurance agent. shit he is the agent.

nice one!

ok so now I think what the problem is, no gas coming out of the tank, no gas in the line from the tank to the filter at all, used the compressor through the vent line to add a little pressure, all that happened was the tank swelled, opened the cap and air escaped. I had it hooked up to the 600 and ran fine when I got it out of storage. Good news I guess is that it ran for a few seconds with gas dropped in the plug holes. What could be preventing gas from flowing?
Jetboy
Do you have the gas lines connected correctly at the fuel pump? The lines may be pinched between the airbox and the steering post. Your fuel filter dirty? Pulse line connected?
catspaz8
There are what the call smart valves in the gas intake Lines in the tank, replace them and that should do it then.

Was the previous engine EFI?
XCR1250
Possibly an air leak on the pump suction end, clamp all your fittings hoses to hose barbs, recheck your pulse line for loose connection.

Thanks for all the replies everyone, as it turned out I guessed wrong on the fuel pump and had the lines reversed, hooked em up the correct way and she purrs like a kitten now, just have to replace the damn washers on the throttle block, have to hold it just right to get it to rev out. Should be simple enough and good to go. Thanks again!
Jetboy
Sweet! Thats what I thought....
catspaz8
Just go under the bar pad and unplug it, you'll loose use of your kill switch but it works, and no money no wrenchy!!!
ZRBIGA
Yeah, I know but I like to use the kill switch, I pulled the plug this morning to take a run down the road and aereate the lawn a little to make sure everything else was good with the transplant. What a difference from the old set up!!!!
