first of all can you put 600 jugs on a 440 bottom end, i have heard several differing ideas on this. If it can what is needed to do this.
Thanks

you need to machine off material off either the jug or case to accomdate for the rod differences

Depending on the year of the 440 you need to accomodate for the rod length difference which is commanly taken off the top of the case. Early american build 440 motors up through 2000 already have the 600 compatible rod. The inside of the top half of the 440 case will need to be opened up to accept the larger diameter 600 cylinder also, on motors up to '05 which I have been told accepts the 600 cyl in stock form or with minimal effort. I have a '03 440 ProX bottom end with 600 cyl's on top (660). Straightline Performance in Forrest Lake Minn. did the machine work for me. Any well known shop should be able to do the machining.

moresnow I have been thinking about doing this to my 02 440. Did you use the stock 34mm TMX carbs? Will the 440 ignition system work with the 600(or 660) top end?

I tried to use the 34's but had no luck with them other than breaking in the motor on the stand (no jetting baseline etc.). I think a guy could make them work (34's) with some effort but I just went ahead and bought a set of 38 rack carbs to get on the same page as most other people. The 2000 model 440 ignition will work fine with the 600/660 motor but the '02 may have a different ignition I really don't know. I have a stock 440 race cdi and a re-programmed race cdi (600 curve). I've run both with no trouble but like the 600 curve better.

Just throwin it out here guys but im sure its 700 pots you gotta throw on to make it a 660. It can be done to the 600 and 500 with no mods cause they have the same bottom end and since the stroke is not the same on them as the 700 it makes it a 660 not a 700. It is the same case for the 440 with some mod to the case the 700 pots can be put on and make it a 660 as well.

the 660 is usually polaris 600 cylinders bored out, using a 700 polaris piston. IIRC anyway.

660 uses smallblock bottom end (modified if its a 440) with 600ves smallblock cylinders that get bored to accept the stock Pol. 700 piston. 700 cylinders will not fit on the smallblock bottom end.

to add on a 600....you need to remove 6mm of material from either the top of the case or the jugs (like the 500) and open up the inside of the top half of the case to accept the 600 piston and that is all correct? Im looking around here at school to see if they have the equipment to do it, and see what the price would be just for shits, it might just be easier to get a complete 600 though.

No problem, I just took my cylinders in today to get ported so I should be building the motor in about 3-4 weeks. I'll let you know if I run into any problems since you have the same sled.
