Thinking about installing boost gauge on fst s/b.....wheres the best place to tie in with one to get the most accurate boost reading...anybody have pics of where they installed one....Also wondering about type of boost gauge, some have boost/vacum while others have just straight boost...which works the best??? Thanks in advance for any info on this.... :div20:

You need a good quality gauge with a 0-30psi scale. VDO and Autometer are good examples of quality instrumentation.

The best location where to install your gauge pressure inlet depends on what you want to measure best. If you want to measure the actual engine vacuum and boost operating condition, use the intake after the throttle venturies. If you want to measure how the turbo responds (spools, spikes or creeps) to engine load and throttle setting, use the intake air box. In any case, don't use the pressure line connecting the pulse solenoid valve to the turbo housing... you will only see wastegate pressure management from there.

I noticed what looks like a sensor of some kind located in the side of the air intake box, would that be the factory boost sensor????...Installing the gauge pressure inlet behind the the throttle venturies would probaly be a huge job, as it looks a tad difficult to get in there.. :burp:

I used a Vac/ Boost gauge from VDO. Hooked it into the sensing line to the purge dump valve located on the right side behind the intercooler. You can trace the line back to an easy place to tap in. The gauge reads vacuum at idle and low speeds and boost when the engine is on the turbo. It senses the intake pressure after the throttle plates so it reads what the engine sees. I installed the Boost gauge along with an ACE gauge in the space to the left of the MFD.

Look at the post from Geezerha....this is the intake manifold vacuum/pressure circuit. You can do as he did. You will get a good vacuum/boost reading using this pressure circuit on which the manifold pressure sensor and the variable fuel pressure diaphram are plugged into.

On the other hand, to plug into the intake air box, where the "absolute pressure" sensor is located, you can use the center hose (there are 3 hoses) connected to the idle stepper motor compensator located directly above the valve cover....beside a small unplugged white 4 prong (3 wires) electrical connector used for ECU code download.

I tapped into the bypass valve line and it reads just fine.
here is a pic of it installed.
