I say us HCSers pitch in and put a web cam with a snow stick up to Swift Diamond Riders clubhouse I think that would be sweet, I would pitch in. I heard $500 and we're in any info?
legend700
i'd be in, heated building should be able to do it for that or less only need an update every few hours.

Problem is the SDR clubhouse isn't on Diamond Pond. They moved it down the road a little ways. :cn:

I have the cams. PRR and Rangley use them. I spoke to someone last year about a camera up there at their house on Diamond Pond but they never followed up on it.

Preferabley, you will need DSL and the camera depending on which model will cost between $600-$1k. Have the camera upload to the website for viewing is the easiest.

Is high speed internet even available right at the pond?

User 'Diamond', respected trails updater from trailconditions.com briefly posted out of Diamond pond last season. Ideally, a webcam should be focused on a active groomed trail if at all possible. :beerchug:

I do remember this, but posting text writeups can be done through dial-up, painfully slow but it will work. I am not too sure if a dialup connection could handle a webcam, also depends if the dialup connection would be a long distance call or not too. We take some things for ganted down here, I have several options for high speed access from my house, but that far up in the woods is a different story, I am not even sure if it is an option or not.
Any of you Great North Woods HCS members have high speed broadband connections?
ZR1000
I think the ones that do have satelite systems. :div20:

Put it right at the clubhouse facing the trail to the side of the building when you pull in on the left. They have cable television so maybe they have cable internet but I think a SDR webcam would be sweet.
legend700
as long as they have a phone line it's fine. you can get them to send to a modem not just to a server. sure it will take awhile but a low res picture on a dialup is better than none at all.
Airtime006
Yes, you can use a dial up. Resolution will not be effected by the slow line just speed to come up. I have one at my lake house. at 21.6 a 704x480 resolution pic every 30 seconds. Everything would be set up automatically if on DSL, Satelite, or POTS(plain ole telephone service). Just need to use a different camera to accomplish the modem compatibility ie. RS-232 port(serial). PM me if you need more details.

Last year I mentioned this on TC.com and Kevin Drew of SDR said to stop by and discuss it with him.

So go for it guys.....

Someone was bitching about the lack of or untimely reports out of SDR.......Dont have a clue who it was grinning-smiley-023.gif

But there was mentioned of a web cam....got a sarcastic come on by and we can discuss....OK Be right there !

I dont think SDR wants anything to do with one.....Hell if Groveton and Pittsburg can get one on line they certainly could if they wanted to.

Just my $.02
