Have a chance to pick up a nice '04 non turbo touring, but am concerned that my wife or I might hate the lack of power. Is there anything reasonable that can be done to these sleds for some more power? Should be quite a bit out there, considering the history of this motor.
Thanks
every thing you do to it will cost money an you should be able to get a TURBO unit for the added amount of money spent an it will be newer

I have both the turbo and naturally-aspirated sleds. The non-turbo is a turd, don't bother unless you don't like to go faster than 60 mph. It has plenty of torque if you are using it for a workhorse though...

This would be my wife's sled. The only time I'd be riding it would be with my boys riding on back, and I wouldn't be going fast then. Can get an '04 non turbo touring with 4500 miles shipped to me for $3700. I haven't seen any turbos go for less than $5000. If I happened to find a wrecked turbo, the turbo parts should just transfer to the nonturbo, right?

I seriously think there is a lot more to it than that. Not so sure it can be done on any kind of budget you'd have to spend if $5000 is more than you want to spend, total. For instance, you might need a different ecu chip. I'm reasonably sure the pipe would have to be changed and probably many other things. Gears, clutching, , pretty sure it would be a long list of changes. Much time in trails through the woods and 60 is plenty fast. I just picked one up, an 02 touring at just 45 hp, about a month ago for those times when it's not about speed but good companionship with frequent trail stops. Very nice sled for long rides, too. Dooleys on the skis make it a dream to handle, too. Of course there are times and places where I like a good speed run. Then I hop on my 02 Legend 600 that seems to pull harder each year after finally getting the fuel flow adjusted right. As long as you have a quicker sled, too, just enjoy the good points of the non turbo and save a bundle on gas, to boot.

I agree with Coyote. I also have a T660 non turbo which I take my daughter on family trips. think of it as a family sedan, station wagon or mini van.
For when I have the need for speed I have a choice of 05 Firecat or a modded 98Tcat to run.
If I go on another long snowmobile tripe I would take the T660 instead of the faster gas guzzling sleds. You can go 200+ plus on a tankful (13gallons) on the T660. I would like to get that type of gas mileage out of iether my two other sleds.

i got the same sled ! i love it ! economic and very strong but need a little bit of speed i gess we could get a bit more by playing with the gear in the chain case and spring clutch without compromise the torque to mutch , but what i think would be the best but havent find it yet ! would be to find a kevlar 20 inch track ! like those who they put on sled for water racing that would change the whole thing its half the weight of an ordinary one and on a rolling peace its all the difference you can be sure on that ! then we could give him more speed on the gear without compromise any power lost!!! sorry guys for my english cause i am french !
