Well last night I pulled her apart to put in the new reeds. It was not a good night. First thing I find is the oil pump cable sticks wide open. Look at the pic of the intake, you think its getting enough oil?? :banghead:
Once I have everything removed I notice the intake boots are cracked and need replacing. Now I have to put it back together so the dealer can pull it back apart. :banghead:
Now for the one that got me stummped (or pissed). Take a look at the motor mount pics. I know there shitty pics and they dont do justice for what I seen. Is the rubber part suppose to be flat on the mount or up in the air as these are? There is about a .200 gap between the rubber and the mount. They feel pretty solid, not tore or loose as I stuck a screwdriver under them and tried moving them around. They just flex like rubber would. :banghead: I really dont think they should be this way, What do you guys think?? Some of you guys have been telling me to check these and Ive been saying naaaa they were just replaced. :banghead: :banghead: I really like this sled, but dam I am affraid to take the cover off the dam thing anymore for fear of finding something wrong with it..........

That gap is normal for the front mounts...it's also part of what causes the alignment issues especially on the mag side. You cant see if the mount is torn unless it is removed...look at the pics in my old mount thread.
Some nice oil puddles there...grinning-smiley-023.gif You'll need to get that fixed for sure. Likely it's just the cable sticking.
polaris9500
my intake boots were cracked as well replaced them this summer. keep that oil pump arm lubed up good also.

I have buddy with a 900 and his were cracked also. Must be some good material they are using for these. Definitly something everyone should be checking and a must check before every season.

i noticed this on a few 05 900's back in spring of 06. so for preventitive maintainance i pulled mine, cleaned 'em good, and rubbed some 100% pure silicone DOW vacuum grease all over them. upon inspection this fall, they still look like new. just something to think about. im sure any 100 % pure silicone grease would do the trick to keep them from drying out. :div20:

Thanks for the tip. :beerchug: I will be doing this when the new ones arrive.

Sounds like Polaris switched suppliers for their carb boots. They are probably made in China now for $.50 ea. The Edge versions never cracked.

On my 05 900, I had a very light throttle return spring (autozone/VIP) attatched to my oil pump arm which ensured it always returned.

Same here AJ. Only way to insure it was closing properly.

Guru? hehe, I wouldn't go that far with it. Santas elf is out in the shed tryin to make parts now...poor feller..grinning-smiley-023.gif
Best thing to do is keep an eye on things...watch for large amounts of belt dust and failing torquestops...then you know you have to do something to remedy the situation.

The spring on the pump lever isn't a bad idea if you're having trouble keeping the cable clean. Thing is though if there's that much belt dust on the cable you should look elsewhere.

He knows I did A bunch of stuff to my 05, and it did haul. I had no more trouble with my 900 than I did with my apex. With the 900 it was locking the engine down, with the apex it was fiddling with the monoshwag. Both were one season sleds. Too much about each I did'nt like. The 600Ho however........ :div20:

Thanks for all the comments guys!
I think the biggest thing to get these sleds to run as they should is getting the motor to not dance around. I put a little extra touch to the SLP arms. Someone else on here did this first and was kind enough to share his idea and seens as I work in a machine shop I figured this was a good idea. :div20: Notice the additional torque stop behind the arm. :fluffy:

While you have it apart, pull the oil pump and check it. Mine was sticking at the end of last season and I assumed it was the cable, however once I got it apart and looked a bit further I discovered it was actually the pump that was the problem. The pocket that the shaft fits into had elongated and when the lever was pulled it cocked the shaft to one side making it stick wide open...

And nope, dont the doos at all. First polaris in our riding group or family for that matter. My grampa rode doos back in his time and its been a family thing ever since.
