A lot of money i think just no insurance is close to $400 and if a vast pass is $110 i bet the fine for that is even more, and i bet the no reg is at least $100. and i wonder if they can impound your sled.. I know you were looking for exact numbers but i figured i could get it started for you.

That's not cool and I think you would be FUCT!....Riding a uninsured sled and having a accident where there is injuries. The $200 or so dollars you saved by skipping the law is not worth the attachment of your work wages IF you injure somebody.

I just sat through the VT saftey course with my kids and this came up in the class. The instucter said that in addition to the fines above the officer has the authority to not allow the sled to be driven away, so you could be in for additional costs associated for the removal of the sled from wherever you got stopped.

I'm not sure about the fines, but I'm pretty sure you instantly become an ass hole though.

Probably not the best place to ask a question like that!? Lets see you got 1000s and 1000s invested in sled, gear, trailer and tow vehicle but now suddenly you dont want to pay to have the trails groomed, signed and maintained??? Oooh I get it, Your one of the people ruining this sport!! :frech32:

Easy on him guys.
You should register and insure your sled to support the clubs and VAST.
No money = NO GROOMING.
I know first hand that the money situation is hard after last year, so we need all the money we can get.

Sorry if I jumped all over you. I dont understand spending $8000 on a new sled(like some friends of mine)and saying "Im not paying$200 for insurance and $110 on a trail pass, thats a rip off!!" To me that just makes no sense at all!! I registered in vermont every year including this year, like gaderx said Money=Grooming!!

:banghead: Sorry guys. It was only a question. I have never riden unregistered, nor do I intend to. However one of my friends was thinking of it just to come out one time. I was trying to find the answer cuz I knew it wasn't gonna be cheap. I know about the funding, and how VAST works. I just wish that they had a weekend pass for people like him, like Canada.
Once again sorry, did not mean to offend anyone.

i think that VAST would get some extra money if they had just a weekend pass. it seems as thought it would allow more people to go for a weekend trip if they wanted. every other state around the area has it. and i remember a few years ago there was thought on a tri-state pass between Vt Nh and Me that would also be nice but it doesnt look like it will happen

It's hard enough to get agencys in the same state to cooperate with one another, let alone 3 States to work together. Problem being, each thinks they deserve more $$$ than the other two.
like they say - "If you want to play - You hafta pay!" and pay and pay . . .
Sled - $10,000, Clothing - $1,500 Truck & Trailer - $30,000
2' of snow - PRICELESS!!
Think freakin' snow!!!!!!!!!!!!

Over here-
Sled $2000, Clothing- Xmas gifts ect..., minivan $400.... no trailer.
Not everyone is rich enough to have thousands invested in this shit.
My buddy who wants to come up and ride has a ski doo Mach Z that he got for free, and he thinks it is trail worthy. I just wanted to show him what it is all about. Thats all.

I think thats cool.... why not take it out for a few hours, I'd definitly take the chance.
I wasn't gonna say anything but theres a lot of sleds out there not registered, insured, vast.
A lot of Vermonters don't want to cough up all that money and then have a shitty winter. Its hard enough to make it as is.
I can see if they ride ever day to be legal, but for one ride don't think so

just asking, what's the difference between the enforcement of season passes versus temporary ones? i think most people want to be legal and not be freeloaders so why not make it easier on those who don't have the chance to ride here all season?

All of this is correct, but what most people do not know, all violations go on to your Drivers Licence! Regardless of what state your from. Just a little food for thought. See Ya on the trails!....Legally I hope.
P.S.- If you ride in the Woodford area, the Police are out alot! Any time Day/Night!!

I'm with dgree... if I was taking out a buddy for a couple hours, I'd roll the dice (slow down that high horse and flame away GaderX). If said buddy is going to be riding every weekend, he'd be an idiot not to be legal for reasons discussed (money going to a good/needed cause, he WILL get checked at some point and get pinched). Either way, ride safe!

What I mean is we dont have enough popo's out on the trails to enforce people riding with a weekend pass longer than they should... however i just as soon be with out popo's running radar.

I live in just outside glens falls, NY and i won't ride in VT because of the trail pass. I'd rather drive the 1.5 hours to the 'Dacks than VT even though the snow is the same. I'd sure like to ride one or two weekends and I'd pay $20 for a week pass or something though. It's not being cheap IMO it's just more $$$ for gas here.
As for enforcement, what he was saying is the the chances of getting busted for no pass vs. expired weekend pass are the same. [

Not having to make a bank payment priceless!
But you should be legal, not worth it if you hit someone.
I did not ride for years because I just could not afford it.
