Hello,

Well as the subject reads just wondering what everyones oppinion is on that topic. Just installed a Black Magic Clutch Kit on my 99ZR600 and its engaging at about 5000 RPM. The last BM clutch kit I had in it did that also but I had problems which I don't think was really related but just paranoid becuase it did considerable damage and cost me some $$$. Would appreciate any feedback anyone might have. Thanks.

5000 is probably o.k. What is your max RPM when wide open? A few of the kits I have had on the case reed Cats 98-00 had high engagement but it gave a heck of a hole shot.

Smooth the backside of the engagement notch on the bench sander, engagement will be about the same but less grabby.

I had a BM kit on a 98 440 ZL and it was REAL agressive. I didn't like the engagement on it at all. Also, not sure if it was related, but we broke TWO crankes in that machine, before giving it a transplant with a ZR 440 motor.. ylsuper.gif

I'd say very likely related. I had a BM kit(pipes, chip, clutching) on my 98 ZR 6 EFI, I got lucky on my crank holding together. First I melted a piston badly at the 57 mile mark after install. From the sudden jolt every time it engaged(about 5600-6000 on mine) along with running a studded track, it wasn't long before the key holding the driven on the jackshaft wore bad enough to cause grief. I had to machine out the jackshaft and the secondary and make a new heavy duty key to get rid of all the slop and keep it together. Also, not long after that I had the rotor split into two pieces on me....the list continues.

Did I mention 0, that's right, ZERO problems before I installed this kit :banghead:

When it ran properly it MAY have had slightly more power than stock, but for all the headaches it caused I think I'll not be calling Black Tragic again...
