Full Version: Ride Report from Houghton Lake and North

Depending on where you at the snow total could have been 4" or 6". We rode north out of the cottage up through the Cranberry Trail to Dingmanns. We were going to continue north to Starvation Lake but the trail from the park and ride was pretty bad from high traffic use with little snow. Took back roads and two tracks south from there. The sun was out all day :banghead: which took it's toll on the trails closer to the cottage. Getting back sucked but we made it. Anyone planning on going up next weekend I would hold off. The trails were NOT rideable today and next Saturdays weather according to the local news is 36 degrees. I wouldn't call it a mistake that we went but when we left it was what I expected but the sun we did not.

107 miles for the day.

It was cool hooking up with Speedwerx1000 and DooskiX (even though we only rode with ya for about an hour) hope to do it when things are better this season.

Anyone have any "performance" suggestions for Nick he was thinking about a Phazer.. :smilielol:

Not a bad ride for the first of the season..

I told you guys to come up to my place---we put about 40-50 more on today. Even rode into Lovells for lunch.

F1000 now has 60 miles....REV didn't leave the garage :smilielol: :wut60:

(and no..that doesn't mean it's a better sled :cn: )

Put the juice on it it gives it around 35 hp
Bionic Rev
As Napoleon Dynamite would say, "JEALOUS". As for the Phazer Nick, don't do it. You'll look like a Shriner in a go cart on the Fourth of July parade :smilielol: :beerchug:

Remove 200+ lb man beast and insert 12 year old child is the only performance advice I could give on that...

I appreciated the invite and if I had more time we would have. Glad you guys got some riding in today...we went back last night and licked our wounds and headed home early.

Either way....first ride is in good or bad and next time will be better.

Did your opinion change about the F?

Did your opinion change about the F?

A little bit..it's growing on me.

Today we learned that it didn't beat the shit ouf of Keiths 800 powertek like it should have....the harder I rode it the better it felt...

Still turned like shit, felt pretty heavy..but for a trail sled it'd be awesome, not to mention on the lake.

F1000 vs. Powertek needs to happen again once the F isn't over-revving by 400 rpms, and the powertek isn't under-revving by 300-400 rpms.

From a roll the 1000 put about 3-4 sleds on the clutched p-tek...and the 1000 had bullseyes and the DD y-pipe.

But the 1000 is just getting started on break in..oil in the gas still :smilielol:

That's o.k., Fat Boy's day is comming. :cn:

Low snow on the ride home?? Naaaa.......They don't leave snow on plowed paved fuckin' roads!! :banghead:
Let's just say that my brand new ski's, 9-12" carbides and hyfax are all WELL fuckin' "seasoned" now.

I guess that is why when I am the navigator, things go much more smoothly.

A regular sized sled is small on me, there's no way in hell I'd be riding one of those kiddy karts. :drunk:

In all seriousness, I looked at one at Steven's in Bay City Saturday morning and it looks like it is not finished. I'm not bashing Yamaha's at all, but it looks like you are going to freeze and get covered with snow because of that big ass hole in the tunnel. dunno.gif

Yep Paul, I was lucky to get out early, I broke trail until I hit the Cranberry yesterday, and there were only a couple sled tracks ahead of me there.
I would think the puddles froze over today, my sled still is covered with muddy ice from skiing the puddles yesterday.
I got three or four more inches of snow here today at this time, and its snowing lightly right now. I didnt ride today, but if keeps snowing tonight, I'll be out tomorrow. Its in the mid teens, the snow is light and dry. We need a whole lot more before the groomer can get out.

Yeah we went to Lake City Sat night and rode for an hour and went back to the cabin. With the lake not froze yet it was pretty crappy around there. Headed to St. Helen Sun morn and did 105 miles. About 4-6 like Paul said and absolutely no frost in the sand yet. Hunters have things chewed up so had to watch ruts and water holes. Marked trails were rideable, but we had some fun on two tracks and the Federal roads out north of Clear Lake area towards HillTop 33. Had a chance to try my sled with the ODS clutch kit and SW silencer and my budd realized he has a cubby face and will have some adjustin to do on the new Doo Modular helmet to make it work right this yr. Had fun, but need more cold and snow.

Looks like fun, wish I could have got out. Still have work left to do on the sled though...plus busy weekend. Possibly next weekend if there is snow.

I'm sure my 15 year old nephew would get bored with that play toy even, easily enough.

Wish I could have made it up there on Saturday. :banghead:

Put 107 miles on my Phazer Saturday, I can tell you that I did not freeze (the muffler under the seat causes hot ass syndrome) and had a blast, but I am only 5'2". My husband and I were the 3rd and 4th track through the tank trails north of grayling, I have to admit that if someone had video taped it, I probably would have looked like I was riding a blue grasshopper, cuz that's what it felt like. It was a good weekend to get in that first ride, I have no regrets about going, didn't ride very many of the marked trails as we figured there wouldn't be much snow on them after a couple of sleds.
