Does anyone know if these mountains can be climbed? Does anyone have any pictures from the trail or on top of one of them?

You can get half way up Big Spencer. There is an old wardens camp there also . The view is awsome,
over looking Lobster Lake and Mt. Katahdin. The trail is off the Ragged Lake Trail, just above Kokadjo.
You will see a mailbox beside a narrow trail--this is the trail you want. I have several pictures from on
top, but none are digital. If I get my scanner running, I,ll post a few for you. We travel this area many
times.

I'm not sure how long you'll be allowed to go to the firewarden's cabin half way up Big Spencer. It seems the state is making the high altitude Big Spencer area a non-motorized, primitive recreation, backcountry area; snowmobiliers not invited. I'm not sure how far along they are in accomplishing this objective. The State snowmobile program has been looking for other scenic high points in the area but have been scared off by the cost to build bridges to access these new high points.

So I guess you can say we're in the same position at Big Spencer as we are with Quimby. Bent over grabbing our ankles. :banghead:

so you mean it's a "passive" recreation area now? i was hoping to check that area out myself this season... hopefully it's not too late.

the trail up to the wardens cabin is an ATV trail, no big deal. you CANNOT ride a sled any further up the mountain than that. i have hiked it, don't waste your time.

i wanted to ski it for a long time and after hiking it, don't know if it's worth the work involved.....and i have skiied just about everything.

the trail is very narrow and extremely steep from the wardens camp all the way up. great view at the top though.
