I hope they went north of me... trails are shot already. Decent this morning though, only about 4-6 here or so... enough for all them old Yammies I have. Kids had a good time though, that's all that mattered today. They got to ride, while I got to work... but I couldnt stand it, so I took a play break. :banghead:
You aint missing much here, but I hear north got up to 17"!! If it's like ours (wet and heavy), probably isn't too good anyway. Not cold enough....

Heard its all shot now. They are suppose to get snow every day untill this friday, so hopefully we get another strong storm. It just needs to be colder for long, and more snowfall. Remember its only Dec 1. I cant remember when you could get a ride in that early in a while.

Yeah right!!!
I seen so many sleds out on the trail this weekend just tearing up the trails.
They will be the first to start bitching about the trails on how bad they are now.
I rode my own trail today.

I got mine out and running at the cabin this weekend. I didn't even attempt to hit the trails. There was a bunch of yo-yo's out friday night and destoyed them already. Hell the motel right around the corner from my place was packed with more sleds then I see all winter long! Kevin

With the ground not being frozen the snow was going to melt and the only harm done in my opinion is to "our" machines. If it were the middle of Feb and we had a base already and it warmed up I would say yes....damage is being done.

Off trail was great west of Traverse City. Some 2' drifts. It was great to get some shakedown runs in before the season was in full swing. Unfortunately, I left the digicam at home...There would have been some great shots too. Saw only a handfull of sleds too.

I agree... lots of 'mudhills' from spinning tracks, dirt stirred up with snow (inhibits freezing), mud pushed up in the corners... might make the trails more bumpy. :banghead:

Well as far as what is right or not, nobody will ever agree. To some, waiting for a "base" is the only answer, to others the trails open up December 1'st base or no base. And to also support the idea of not waiting and attempting to ride it like you didnt steal it is the fact that in reality who the hell knows what or how much snow this state will get anyway. Reality is this could be one of the only real snowfalls we have, doubt it but nobody ever knows nowadays...
The astronomical amounts of money we spend to have sleds in the first place, I personally if I want to ride and I have new carbides, I bring along a old set or bring along my new set and change them if trails are in great shape. Also hyfax are cheap and I cant tell you how many times after riding on a weekend I changed out a set of hyfax that were 3 or 4 days old. Thats what we have to deal with in Michigan untill winters get better...if they ever do.
Dirt, snirt or no dirt/snirt because somebody roosts a trailhead or stop, I still ride. Its no different in the corners and out of corners, most people hit the brakes hard into a corner and smack the throttle and roost out. Just the facts of the sport, base or no base.
Is it right to do? Well...no but

Hey go ahead and ride early before the base sets just don't go roosting up the trail. Ride steady and pack down the trails for a good base. When the thaw freeze happens you will be rewarded with smooth trails to hammer on.
