In 2001, I got an XC-SP 500, and my bro got an XC-SP 600. Both sleds (with clutch work and studs) were dead even till 60 mph everytime we raced...after that, the 600 would pull away quite well. I say go for the 600. The 500 is a great engine, just doesn't have the grunt a 600 does.

600, duh.

With clutching, my 600's were about 3mph faster in the 1000', but my 500 was a little faster on top speed.
The biggest difference in trail riding-- the 500 spins the track less, and takes a little less oil and gas.
