I dont think they will fit a 500. These are 800/900 shims.

What's the purpose of these shims? Is it just for additional piston to valve clearance or is there a performance reason?

Once again Mike, thanks for the update!
My payment for 2 sets is sitting in the mail box and will go out in the morning. I added a few extra bucks in case shipping is higher than expected...if not keep it as a tip for all of your effort. Again, I sincerely thank you!

Engine preservation! Increases APV-to-Piston clearance.
No performance gains should be expected although in my case the engine ran much smoother after the contact was eliminated. :div20:

I was told that the 500 and the 800 have the same APV? Maybe I'm wrong???? I was also told the 500 motor had problems with the APVs hitting the piston.

Yes same style valve / not sure if the bridges are the same though.
Yes the 500 has a huge problem with em hitting, seems that they eat the pins then smash the pistons.

my buddy told me i dont need these because the cats have a piece of metal at the end of where the valves are that would stop the valves from going too far into the cylinder and that these shims are a waste of money to me.
are they absolutely necessary if i keep my cables adjusted?
Jetboy
Dec 13 2006, 12:17 PM
And when your cyls and rings wear and start to rock they will catch the tip of the exhaust valve. Just put them in as added insurance!

Not a waist of money at all. I have pistons that will prove that they can and will hit even with cables adjusted properly.
