John Dee's Forecast 12/1/06
1-4 DAY FORECAST:

The main story in the next 24 hours will continue to be an area of low pressure that is in the process of tracking through central IN and will head up into NW OH and then up the St. Lawrence Valley tonight and tomorrow.

After all the waffling around the models did in advance of this system it looks like yesterday mornings guidance package had a fairly good handle on things. Snows were heaviest in central MO and west central IL in the past 24 hours and now it will be northeast IL, southeast WI and into the northern ½ of lower MI’s turn for the heavier snows. Totals in the next 24 hours in those areas just mentioned will be in the 8-12" range, with some areas seeing 12"+ occur as well.

Rains, freezing rain or sleet currently falling will be changing to snow across southern lower MI as well as into northern IN and OH. A general 1-3" will occur in areas there.

By tomorrow the storm will be history and the focus for new snow will be on the LES belts of the UP and NWL.

A clipper system still looks to drop into the Northwoods by Saturday and that feature still looks like it could bring an inch or two of snow to most of the Northwoods. However, the main impact the clipper will have is to re-energize the LES across the UP and possibly into the NWL, where 4-8" totals look to occur in most areas from tomorrow into Sunday. Some of the UP snow belts may even see upwards of a foot of snow following the clipper Saturday and into Sunday.

Another clipper looks to drop into the region by about Monday and that too could bring a bit of light snow (an inch or so) to the Northwoods in general, as well as get another 24 hour period of heavier LES going across the UP and NWL LES belts.

As far as temperatures go, they will be below average across the entire region through the next 4 days. Highs will be in the 20’s across the Northwoods, with 30’s elsewhere in the Midwest. Lows will be in the single digits and teens in the Northwoods, helping to freeze things up.

Now I will wait for the totals. :cn:

Ya GREAT, here I sit in Manistee with about 8 inches on the ground (hard to tell because it's blowing and drifting) but the sleds are about 200 miles from here sitting snugly at home. SHIT!
cha
Sno-mo-nut - I believe you are west of Cadillac....does it look like there will be enough snow to ride there (Cadillac) this weekend?

Saw a 17" total for Manistee. Looks like between Caddy and TVC got the brunt of it so far. :div20:

The drifts here are approaching 3 feet; other areas like local roads that haven’t been plowed are at least 10 inches. I moved the Town and Country van around and was plowing several inches with the bumper. Then again right out of the window I can see grass, I think this is due to the wind whipping right off of Lake Michigan. I'm about 200 yards off the big water. Ya I think the riding will be good here in the Manistee area. Get out in the forest around Udell hills it should be great. If they can groom and bust these drifts up a bit the sledding should be fantastic. It rained here prior to snowing so the ground/base should be excellent.
