I couldn't believe it. I don't watch Kevin Pannix anymore, especially this time of year, as he is definitely not a fan of winter and gets giddy when we get rain instead of snow and causes me to yell at my tv. Todd Simcox has been my weather guy for the past couple of years because he likes snow (or so I thought). This morning he pulled a Kevin. He even used the words "rain event" which is a Kevin trademark and proceeded to say something like 'thankfully the snow will miss us' (can't remember the exact quote). WHAT!!!? Even the other newspeople chastised him for saying it. "Not everyone likes snow". That's fine...move somewhere else then!

Fired this off via e-mail 30 seconds ago. Maybe if more folks sent him similar e-mails he would realize that describing weather in good or bad terms is all relevant . . . after all I hate rainy days in the summer, but to the farmer facing a drought a "continued stretch of good weather" is anything but good news . . . ditto for a .less winter.

RE: Todd Simcox
Just wanted to drop Todd Simcox a quick note and let him know that there are many of us out here who work and live in Maine who relish a good snowstorm and would much rather have it snow than to have it "thankfully" miss us and become a "rain event." While I realize that some folks dislike snow . . . at this time of year many of us avid snowmobilers, skiers, snowboarders, ice fishermen, skaters and snowshoers relish the cold and snow which is why we live here in Maine . . . please bear this in mind when you describe a weather event in "good" or "bad" terms.

As I said, I couldn't remember his exact wording so he may or may not have said 'thankfully'. Didn't mean to mislead you!
Here's what I sent via the feedback on WABI's site...

Re: morning forecast - 12/1/06
Dear Mr. Simcox,
I have been watching WABI for my weather for the past couple of years. I switched from WLBZ because I could no longer stand to watch Kevin Mannix happily report 'rain events' in the middle of January. It was as if he enjoyed breaking my heart as we 'barely avoided' snow several times while my sled sat in the garage all winter.
I found you to be more fond of snow (we are in Maine after all) and you have always seemed happy to forecast the white stuff. I know you can't make everyone happy, but please don't change your tune on winter weather. This morning's forecast was out of character for you. Please stay the .loving guy I rely on for my weather!
Thanx & Merry Christmas,
Chad

If you guys get any response, it would be great to post them!!! We need a big dump, and I'm not talking about the outhouse kind.

I say we storm the WABI studios and drag SIMCOX out into the street and dunk him into a big puddle of "rain event" until he screams " I LOVE SNOW" 50 times. :beerchug:

After frustration with Kevin Pannix last year, I watch Tom Chisholm on WMTW 8, he seems to like snow, and the challenge that forecasting it brings...

Hey - I got an e-mail from Todd! My faith is restored...he was just expressing happiness that the mixed crap missed us...

"Thanks Chad!
Its always nice to hear when people switch to TV 5. You're right, I am a
huge fan of snow and my fingers are crossed that this winter ends out much
better than last. We'll see. Its storms like today though that I'm not so
enthusiastic about since its going to be mainly rain and mixed
precipitation as opposed to all snow.
Pray for lots of snow this winter!!!!!!
Todd"

Here is my reply from Mr. Mannix, hey he replied! I respect that...
"I smile just as wide at snowstorms. I hear this often about every type of weather I forecast and the glee is in the joy I get from my job forecasting the weather which like today can vary greatly over New England. I enjoy all four seasons and often encourage folks to get out and enjoy it. Except when travel is bad. For the record I hate Fla. no disrespect taken. Happy Holiday’s Kevin Mannix"

Thanks for this post...I thought I was the only one who noticed.
If I can add one more grippe...I live in southern Maine and I watch ch6, 8 & 13 to get the total weather prediction. 9 times out of 10, why do the weather guys cut off the top of Maine and report from Augusta south. I need to know what the "County" is doing or like maybe Moosehead or even Jackman. Come on...am I crazy to ask for that??

Hey guys, try living in the Bangor area. We get the short end of the stick for coastal storms AND the storms that hit west and then travel through northern Maine. We're never in the band with the highest amounts for ANY storm. It's always on one side of us or the other. But hey, at least it's cold now! I have a good feeling about this winter. I'm praying for rideable snow before Christmas...
