Full Version: need to take a track off a 96 skidoo 583 any help here?

my buddy needs to take his track off and replace it, he knows how to get the carriage out is there anything else he needs to remove? thanks for the help 1996 skidoo mxz 583. i told him to buy a new sled.

On the chaincaseside: chaincase cover, drive chain, lower gear, three bolted bearing flange plate.

On the clutch side: speedo adapter, three bolted bearing flange plate

Then you need to remove the drive axle, after that then the track will come out.

Since everything is apart it would be a good idea to change the drive bearings and all the wheel bearings.

Go to DOOtalk.com and check the tech section step by step instructions with photo's. Just did my neighbors 2000 MXZ 700 sunday in about 3 beers ooops an hour...

A really good heavy duty pair of Snap Ring Pliers(45* or 90*) so you can remove the bearing on the chaincase side. Other than that, it's a quick easy change.

Definatley change the bearings and change the seal while your at it. NOt a lot of $$$ and you will be set for years to come.
