Any of the trails on the Iron Range are good riding whether you go north or south from the Virginia, Eveleth area the riding is good. Later in the year l;ike Feb there are some good deep snow riding areas to the south out in the big spruce swamps off of our clubs trail, I have seen snow 6-9 feet deep out there when there is little or no snow elsewhere in the area. The Super 8 in Eveleth or the Amercinn in Virginia are both good motels to stay at the Super 8 is right on a groomed trail tho, we park our groomer in the parking lot on weekends.. The trail to the south is ditch riding for the first 4 miles then it takes you out into the big swamp heading south towards Cotton and Canyon area and from there you can go to Duluth or the North Shore and back around for a big loop ride of about 200 miles if you so desire.. To the North you can get to Tower and Cook and up to I-Falls or over more to the east you can go to Ely and over to Isabella and the North shore all the way to Grand Marais up by Ontario Canada. If you want any phone numbers just hollar and I will send them along to you

I recommend the North Shore area Between Silver Bay and Grand Marais and up to Isabella. They get Lake Effect and always seem to have the most snow. Trailhawks idea spots are good also. The Laurentian Trail, Giants Ridge, and Taconite trailare usually a good time. let me know if you need more specific info.

Check out Ash Trail Lodge...north of Orr, MN. Very nice place and usually have snow when the rest of the state doesn't.

I'll second the Ash Trail Lodge. Take atleast 4-5 trips there a winter. It's got a little bit of everything lake riding, river, trail and powder. We used to travel to the up but f**k michigan, lot closer to home and great riding.

I'd second a couple of ideas here. Vouagers for the best scenic and least crowded riding and north shore for best chance of deep snow riding.
I live just off the 'north shore' and big dumpings of LES is not uncommon.
Sticking my head out the door...

You know it's bad when you can't even get out of the driveway...

I'll second and third the Ash River Trail. Not just the Ash Trail Lodge but any of the resorts on the river are good. I stayed at the Frontier this summer and the guy Rob who works there said come back in winter and he'll show me lots of deep untouched powder. I'll be going back for sure. :beerchug:

you can stay at knotted pine cabins and there is always the most snow in that area along the north shore. also i used to live up the gunflint trail for 25 yrs. at devils track lake and there in always alot of good snow up there. also newer nice condos on the east end of the lake at the old airport.

Lake Vermilion up through Crane Lake and the Ashtrail area are good. We started to skip the U.P. every year for that long weekend trip.
