It's clean , fresh motor and runs pretty good but it just sucks to ride. Noone seems to want them and I'd rather keep it than give it away. It is our spare sled but I ended up having to ride it for a weekend and I think I would have rather stayed at the cabin and played Playstation. I'd rather have an XC500 or 600 for a spare. I want my girlfriend to ride this year but at 98lbs and a beginer I think it's just a little too much for her. So if anyone wants to trade let me know.
Back to the question of what to do with it. I did score an Edge skid , so I think that will help alot but is there anything you can do with the front suspension ? Are there any good shocks that will fit this sled ? Maybe with the Edge skid , some good shocks up front and stacking front springs I can get this thing to ride and handle decent.

Any ideas ?

rebuild the gas shocks.

Did that.
I'm used to riding my ProX or an EdgeXC700 so it's like apples to oranges BUT there has to be some way to get it to ride better.

That sled should handle pretty decent as is, the ride is where it needs the most help. The Edge suspension conversion should take care of most of that problem.

FWIW, thinking the Edge front shocks are within 1/4" in length compared to what's on the Xtra 10 front........I know they'll work on a Gen II, but haven't actually done an Aggressive.

you are right, in good conditions it really isn't THAT bad. You can feel the wieght but it does turn pretty decent. In the bumps it sucks.

So you have put Edge front shocks on a Gen II and it worked ? If they were a 1/" to long what could it hurt ? Wouldnt the spring coil bind before the shock bottomed ?

Upgrading the shock valving to 1998 spec is a huge improvement over 97 spec. 97's skid would collapse, not recover and ride/ handling suffered. The ski keel profile was very aggressive in 97 and 98. I believe 1/2" of keel was shaved for 99. If you run a 1/2" bar 6"easy steer without adapter plate steering is great without darting. When clutched it is a good reliable sled that got a bad rap for a poor factory set-up. It is heavy and pipes make it a pain to service.

This is a 99 xcr that I swapped a prox skid into for my cousin. This thing is a dream to drive now. As you can see we left the fox shocks and stock springs all I did is revalve the ski shocks. This is how the sled should have been built. It is no longer a lumber wagon. When I had my xcr 700 I ran the m-10 rear with dual rate springs and revalved (original) fox shocks on the front, it also rode great but had the usual m-10 limitations that get worse on a 3x3.

I am not a fan of installing longer shocks on a crc front end without completely considering what is going to happen potentially to scrub, chamber and toe out on turn changes. It is not as big of a deal on a non crc. I know others have done it but your foxes will work.

Well

My buddy has a 99XCR7 that has had a M10 in it since it's 1st yr.
It rides and handles very well although it did take quite a bit of chassis experimentation to get it right.
The install wasn't exactly easy or straightforward either.

He had the stock Fox ski shocks revalved and they work quite well within their travel limitations.

I have ridden Edge converted Aggresive sleds and they are a better go in my opinion as well as the install is easier too.

PS: I would rather ride ANY sled than stay in the cabin and play video games!!!!! Tsk Tsk

No offence, but I would sell it and buy something a couple hundred pounds lighter. JMO

Couple hundred, how much you think it weighs? I weighed a XCR700, same body style, 623 LBS. wet, my triple EDGE weighs 604 wet, an XC800 was 589, RX1 was 663 with 7 gallons of gas.
