Weather Forecast Discussion:
A Significant Snowstorm May Affect Northern Maine Friday night Through Saturday
A warm front is forecasted to move through the area tonight and be located to our northeast by Thursday morning. This warm front will bring periods of rain and areas of fog to the area this evening, which will taper of to areas of drizzle and fog later tonight. On Thursday, cloudy skies, areas of drizzle and fog and scattered rain showers will be the rule across northern Maine as we will be in the warm sector of a strong and dynamic storm system that will be pushing to the east from the central United States on Thursday. This same storm system promises to bring snow to areas like Oklahoma, northern Texas and the Texas Panhandle tonight into the day on Thursday. The strong cold front associated with this storm system is forecasted to move through northern Maine Thursday evening. This cold frontal passage promises to change any rain over to snow by Friday morning. At the same time of all of this, a strong storm system is forecasted to develop along this front over the southern United States Thursday night. This storm system is forecasted move to the northeast on Friday reaching central New York State by Friday evening and then cross northern Vermont, northern New Hampshire and central Maine on Friday night. This track will introduce snow to the area from Friday night through Saturday morning. Early indications from the various computer forecast models show that a total of 8 to 13 inches of snow could fall from Friday night through Saturday morning. With that said, the exact track of this storm is still somewhat uncertain, so keep checking back for updated weather forecasts concerning this potential significant winter storm. The storm system is forecasted to pull away into Atlantic Canada on Saturday afternoon, with scattered snow showers expected Saturday afternoon. High pressure is forecasted to provide a partly sunny day on Sunday. A storm system is forecasted to form off of the North Carolina coast Sunday night and track northeastward reaching eastern Nova Scotia by Monday evening. This storm may bring some light snow to northern Maine on Monday into Monday night, but at this time, the heaviest amounts of snow may fall across coastal Maine, southern New Hampshire and across southern New England on Monday into Monday night. The track of this storm is uncertain and may very well change, so keep checking back for the latest weather forecasts concerning Monday's storm.
