How many black powder hunters out there? What do you shoot? Hope we get the snow they are talking about this weekend! At least it looks like it's going to get colder! Good Luck to everyone.

I used to hunt up there on Parker Hill had permission to hunt on 4 or 500 hundred acres of posted land. Used to see a lot of deer never shot any up there. I was up there in 1998 on Dec. 6 it got up to 60 degrees and I said the hell with it and headed home saw some does in my field that afternoon and then went out to sit out the last couple of hours on the hill. I was taking a nap under a tree when I woke up to see the biggest buck I had ever seen in Vt. looking at me, after a long stand off with me not wanting to even twich he started moving agian and went behind a tree. I was able to get the gun up and get ready for him and made a good shot, he was 163 pounds and an 8 pointer with and 18 inch spread. Thier is a picture of him on the hunting page under your biggest deer. Hope we all have a great season. What are you hunting with? I have a Thompson Center White Mountian Cabine and a Thompson Center Omega. Good Luck :beerchug:

I live up here, but I've never hunted here at all. My family has a now inactive dairy farm on the western side of VT. Its about an hour and a half over there, but worth the trip just to take advatage of the land we have. I am suprised how many big bucks are taken from Windham county though.
My muzzleloader is the same one I've been using since I was about 15yrs old. Its a kids model called a "Fox River 50". Its lightweight, shoots fantastic, and I don't want to cough up the money for a new one....

Hey if it shoots good why get another one? I only got the omega because I could not get the carbine to shoot well. After I got the omega and swaped scopes around I got the little carbine to shoot like a dream, if it had shot like that before I never would have got the new one! Had any luck yet? I got a good doe on sunday but have not seen a buck yet. Heading back out now, we have a little snow on the ground, hope it stays. :div20:
Good Luck!

Nope...I have a pregnant wife at home, and she was as sick as a dog this weekend. So I left the big one for this coming weekend instead....

i went out sat. and sun. and no luck. went out today after school. nothing. goin back out thursday and hopefully this weekend. good luck to everyone. and for what i use for a boomstick is a remington model 700ML Youth. got it when i was 12, and just alittle guy, lol. then i just put a thicker recoil pad on it so it would be fullsize length. with the shorter barrel then the fullsize one it carries nice and still shoots great!
edit: forgot to mention i have a leupold VX-II 1-4 power on it also, one of the best scopes ever!

My younger brother baggedan 8 pointer behind the barn yesterday, so I might take advantage of the available weaponry and try my luck this weekend. :div20:

I was up in IP last weekend. Saturday was wet, then snow. By the time I left camp Sunday afternoon, there was close to 6 inches on the ground. Heading back up Friday to finish the season.
I shoot a .50 cal Traditions Tracker. My center fires are all "scoped". I put a set of Tru Glow sights on the muzzle loader. Certainly different and fun to shoot and it does shoot well.

Well the season is over now how did everyone do? I shot a nice fat doe the first weekend, she was the seventh I saw that afternoon. I could not belive the size of the hole the Omega put in her. I shoot 150 grains of powder and the hole looked like I had shot her with a 3 inch 12 gauge slug! Never saw any horns but at least I have some meat in the freezer. The kill at our country store check in was about the same as last year. Hope we get better weather next year. Better start snowing soon I have to put some miles on the sled this year!
