Just took my sled out of storage and fired it up. Put some new plugs in and first pull, she started up, and half way through the first pull the sled leaped forward and into a bunch of boxes in my garage with the track still spinning...Half way through the pull it felt like the rope locked. Pulled the sled over again and it was idling at 2000 RPM's and the sled started tp creap away. Same thing could only pull it half way. The next time pulled it over with no resistance. Engagement also seems to be real hard. The funny thing is the when I put the sled away last year it ran great, wierd. Any ideas on where to fix the problem???

Thanks.

Your primary is sticking.Look at it and see if it needs rebuilding. How many miles and what model?

Primary is sticking just like what he said^ . My 700 will do that same thing every fall , all it takes is just a little corosion and the belt shimmed a little on the tight side and your face choice fix it or see if it fixes it self. if your over 3000 miles it may need rebushed . most of them out of the factory are not set up correctly anyway!

Blow it out with a air compresser. Then try it.It may need to be gone through still.

Remove the clutch clean and inspect for worn parts and stuck rollers. This should be done every season.

Same problem....

Ok, got my sled home, one of my buddies that works at a shop ripped my clutch apart and took a look at it and cleaned it. Let my sled warm up for awhile and took it around the yard a few times, seemed to really engage hard almost clunking. When I hit the break the sled seemed to clunk and wanted to lock up and shut down. Then when I pulled it into the garage, the temp light started flickering. The primary was super hot and so was the engine head, could have fried a egg in 2 seconds.

Let er cool down. Put it up on the stand , and reved it up as the primary clutch compressed, I let off the gas, the clutch started to expand back to its beginning point but stopped have way. About ten seconds passed and pop, the clutch snapped back to its starting position. Reved up the sled again, I hit the break and I heard a clunk and the motor shut off. Started the sled one more time and the primary stayed open, then sled came back to idle, but the clutch was still half way open, then popped back about 10 seconds after idle. Also, with the sled at idle on the stand, the track stays moving.

any more thought?

Thanks?

Did he pull the spider off to inspect the moveable sheave bushing? There may be some belt dust lodged between the spider spacers and the moveable sheave bushing causing it to hang up. Or you could have badly worn weight bushings. But more than likely its somthing with the moveable sheave.

Thanks, I don't think he did. I need a clutcher puller then huh, any other tools?
Any way to pull thatt off without a puller?

Any other thoughts of what might be wrong?

For sure your primary.Have your local dealer take it off a go through it.Unless you know someone with experience on primary clutches with tools.
