I have just put new gears and chain in my 02 XC 700, and was wondering how tight the chain should be. I don't want to overtighten it. Thanks for the help.

I just tighten it is much as I can by hand then back it off a 1/4. It calls for 1/4 to 3/8 chain deflection. What gears did you put in?

That's what I do also! I changed my gears at the end of last season to 24/42 gears.

I put 40/22 gears in it. I got it as tight as I could with my fingures and then tightened the jam nut. I think it is too tight, so I will go back and back it off a 1/4 turn. Thanks for the help!!
