I took the sled in for waranty work 3 week ago and I drove it on the trailer then. It has been on the open trailer sence then. It was cold out today below freezeing. I put it up on the stand and all it would do is smoke the belt. What the hell is going on??
giantkillerf5
parking brake might be locked?
M7 Man
I had the same problem. If you look on the inside of the track up front there is this thing that turns you track when you give it throttle. That thing was frozen stuck on mine
MonsterM7
Park brake engaged , ice frozen in around drum disc, ice in around drivers.
bluebear
Check to make sure your diamond drive isn't frozen. Can you put it on a stand and turn the track by hand? (I assume you can not)

I pulled the dimond drive apart and it was full of ice!!! What the hell would cause that. I put the Mr. heater by it and now it will turn and the ice is gone. Why was all the water in it. What can I do to keep it from doing it again. And no the PARK brake was not on :div20: ..O one more thing what are you guys useing for oil in the dimond drives.

Happened to me last year. I don't understand how all these dealers can still try and say they don't have condensation problems even with the updated seals. Anyway IMO the oil in the DD should be drained and replaced every 500 miles religously.

Yes if the inner bottem seal is in wrong the snow will melt on the case cooling it and run into the case. Short runs will add to this water problem. The case will heat up and humind air will get trapped in side the case. When it cools it will condensate and build up. IF you don't get it hot enuff on a long run to boil the water out and it cann't get out of the vent it will build up in there.

Again just like above change it often.

Should I use AC oil? Or is there some other oil that would work better , be cheeper..
w8ing4snow
AC or black diamond oil. comes in the 3 oz. bottles. You dont want to over fill it. Also I'm not sure anybody knows what its equal is in aftermarket. No reason chanceing it to save a couple bucks IMO.

I believe that there was recall on your sled with regards to the seal having not been installed correctly on some diamond drives causing them to allow water to leak into them. If I recall correctly, the seals were put in backwards on some of the 05's. It's going to keep happening unless you replace the seal.

You may be able to get your dealer to do it if the seal is installed incorrectly and the recall isn't outdated.

Also, Arctic Cat sells a kit to replace the oil in the DD. One bottle of flush to clean it out and a bottle of oil to refill. You don't want to use anything else unless you know exactly which type of oil would be equivalent.

I will pick up some AC oil today. I will check with them on the seal. I just had it in for some recalls , but they didn't say anything about the DD. Thanks for the help..

Are we talking about the DD seal on the inside of the tunnel, or the gasket sealer on the clutch side?

I realize that I am posting this in the wrong forum but the DD servicing you mentioned I'm assuming would apply to my 06 Crossfire. Please know that this is not intended to be a personal attack directed at you as I am ALL about routine service but have to admit(IMO) that having to servicing the DD(changing oil) every 500 miles is not acceptable and in my opinion would point toward AC not doing a very good job designing this drive set-up for "real world" conditions like when I take my week long trip to the UP(Michigan) we often have 200+ mile day..... I understand that mountain sleds do not rack up the miles like a trail sled and 500 miles could be MANY rides on a mountain sled but if this indeed is the case then AC should not have chosen to use this set-up(DD) on their trail machines! Again, this is not intended to be a personal attack directed at you but simply venting my disappointment with the findings after reading this post regarding the DD set-up.

Thanks,
-John

John, I think the problems that are happening with the freezing are mostly the 05's. My aunt has an EB C7 and dad has an 06 M7 and as far as I know neither have had any trouble with the DD (although both are kept in a heated shop).

I definetly understand what you mean about 500 miles not being much. For me thats only before the season and mid season. If it truly is a condensation problem then it probably is more about the heat and cool cycles then the actual miles. I have no idea though how a guy could check this without actually changing it. I've started to wonder though if it has anything to do with running the BD adjuster instead of the cat one or what is different between the 05 and 06 cases. Like bluebear said both his dad and aunt didn't have problems but neither were running the BD adjuster also. I ran BD adjuster all last year and a few other people I talked to that had problems also ran the BD adjuster so I'm not sure if its a coincedense or what. Either way I'd think if your putting on 200 mile days and only having 1 heat cool cycle to 2 or 3 of mine then you should be theoretically be able to get between 1000-1500 atleast out yours but again its all speculation at this point.
