Got this shot of a bobcat or lynx on our property. We were almost sure it was a bobcat until we got it on video and saw that there was only a black tip, not rings, and looks like it has more fur around it's face like a lynx.
*If you pause it when it's tail is in between the two branches you can see the black tip.
Lynx are very rare in the area but I know 2 other people that have seen them very close to our property.
What do ya think?

Don't think anybody could tell from that vid. Here's a couple pics of a Lynx that a guy inadvertly caught in a trap in Maine and released with the help of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. Lynx are protected so must be released.
Lynx have huge feet compared to a bobcat. If your able to find tracks, they may help to identify.
In dirt, lynx tracks are approximately 3 1/4 - 3 ¾ inches long and 3 - 3 3/8 inches wide and in snow up to 5½ inches long and 5½ inches wide.
In dirt, bobcat tracks are approximately 1 7/8 - 2½ inches long and 1 7/8 - 2 5/8 inches wide and in snow up to 2½ inches long and 2½ inches wide. Both bobcats and lynx have 4 toe pads on the front and hind feet. Claw marks typically do not show as they do with canids.

Thanks
Yeah I agree it's a sucky video, and the only thing making us think it's a Lynx is that it LOOKS like there's only a black TIP, no rings, and it seemed that bobcat spots were more defined than on a lynx when we looked at pictures online, compared to the PICTURE the trail cam took, showed VERY faint spots, couldn't even see them.

Bobcat dude, Lynx has a little longer face. At least thats what i look for when in the bush. Also the Bobcat is alittle bigger and more of them for sure at least in northern wis this is the case.
I suggest the northern wisconsin field identification procedure we use. Blast the shit out of it and walk up and look at it. :smilielol: :smilielol: :smilielol: :smilielol: Just kidding, enjoyed the vid!

its hard to say, but i would say its a bob cat cause it didn't look like it had the long ears.

if it is a lynx the black tip will go all aroundthe tail tip where as the bobcat will only have black on the top half of the tail tip hope this helps . from what i have seen of the video looks more like a lynx.
