I am looking at a 2000 XC600 with slp skis, risers, and only 3,600 miles I have never really been a fan of polaris (my brothers predator has been nothin but problems) but this one is a price I cant refuse if you guys/girls could fill me in on what you think of these sleds
-top speed
-suspension travel
-gas milage
-how many miles are on yours
-what type of problems you have had/heard of

Thanks for youe time and input. :beerchug:

Great sled , fantastic chassis IMO. I still own my 2000 700 and still ride it to this day.

IMO this is the best sled Polaris has ever produced.

I just took it for a test ride it has a studded track and vforce3 reeds there seems to be a clunk when the cluch engages and a little bit of belt smoke. it was sitting all summer with stabil in it I am goin to do a compression check this weekend any thing else I should know how much does this sled weigh.(no reverse or electric start)

I have a 99 xc 600 and love it.I have twin psi pipes, hot seat cheater heads, reeds, boost bottle, slydog skis team clutch and epi spring in the primary and 144 studs and it rips. I get about 13 miles to the gallon, and when it was stock about 15 miles to the gallon. The chassie is well built.

Thanks but I need to know more has anyone had any problems with them

overall its a bullet proof ride.

Important Question - Is it an XC SP or the Anniversary Edition????

THEY HAVE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT MOTORS!!!

If it is the XC SP (Red, Blue White and Yellow) then it has the newer Small Block VES motor (115-118 hp). That sled is probably the fasted 600 cc sled every produced!! BULLET PROOF.

The Anniversary Edition has the older Large Block Non VES motor. It makes less power and will be a bit harder on fuel.

Both of the 2000 600s are in the Gen II Chassis. The Edge chassis debuted in 2001. The Gen II is a great handling chassis, corners great (shorter "wheelbase" than an Edge) and has good top speed (better than an Edge).

However - the downside is the Xtra 10 rear suspension is not as good in the bumps as the Edge rear. Also - the seating position/. pit of the Gen II is a bit more cramped than an Edge.

Here are some pics - The top one is XC SP (the one you want) and the bottom one is a 45 Anniversary Edition (700 but looks the same)!!

It could be the mid-season 00.5 XC 600 SP, which was in the Edge chassis.

Good thought - but not likely. There is not too many of the early release 2000.5 Edge 600s out there.

A sure fire way to distinguish a 2000.5 Edge to a 2001 Edge is the early release sleds had black faced guages and the 2001s had white face.

Personally - if it were me - I would spend a little extra $$ and get an 2001 Edge 600. Nice step up for just a little $$.

I would say its an excellent sled for the trails. I have one with over 12,000 miles on it and it is still going strong, even after trail riding, racing, etc. a few things to look out for are....

1. Rear track shock.... if ridden hard over larger bumps without upgrading to better seals and the pps black band update, the shock will give out.

2. If it has a boost bottle on it, watch out for the intake boots ripping directly forward of the bottle mount... had this happen to two different sleds.

3. Keep all suspension bolts tight, as mine seems to always be loose every time i checked them.

Overall it is a bulletproof sled and definately the fastest 600 on the top end that i have ever ridden.

it has the VES motor or it has power valves (that measn it VES right) I am goin to try to negotiate 200 less what hes asking it has a purple hood that says 500 did they come in purple? it also has 500 decals (he said he wanted it to be a sleeper?) the headlight doesnt work how much should I be looking to spend (CDN) it has 4400 miles Im goin to take another look tonight with the compression tester thanks for all your input.

Well no one puts a blue hood on for "stealth" purposes and it sounds like there might be some other issues.

In good condition it is a great sled. I put 7000 miles on mine, bought a new one and kept the old one because I liked it so much. There is really only one big issue with these sleds and it causes the motor to burn down. It happened to me and so I put a 660 big bore in it. MAKE SURE IT HAS OIL IN IT! :banghead:

Does the cylinder head say 600 on it? The 600 and 500 heads and covers are not interchangeable.

My mother had this exact sled. I got to ride it several times. It is very fast and has taken a beating over its lifetime. It has crashed at least 5-6 times and it has NEVER had a mechanical problem that we hadn't created. She just traded it in this year with 5k on it and took over my dads old mach z. I know the dealer and he said that they were one of their alltime best selling sleds.

Are both headlights out? Could be a defective regulator, faulty wiring or simply burned out bulbs?

Purple hood? could be a hood from a 01 Indy 500 SKS, I believe they were purplish blue.

Do you have pic?

The Anniversary Edition is actually the one with the VES motor. I have the same sled but a 500 and it's been great so far. Gas mileage could be better but it beats every other 500 out there when it's set up right.

No polaris kid there was a 500(ves) 600(non ves) and 700(non ves) anniversary editions in 2000.The xc600 sp had the 600 ves motor in it as stated before.Sounds to me like its been smashed up,nobody changes a hood to get 500 decals on it.Check the bulkhead area for damage

Too Slow
My 2000 600 xcsp was the fastest 600 i've ever owned....top speeds 118 mph all day long on a lake reading the speedo. Put on 3400 miles...not a single problem before trading it in for a better riding 01 edge. A buddy owned the same sled...never lost a race in the 600 class with it for over 3 years. :div20:

well the light switch is busted off so Im thinking with the purple hood no lights and missing switch that it was probably rolled or somthing (but he wont tell) Im gonna go take another look tonight or tomorrow night and see whats up thank for the input and the heads say 600.

One more thing so there was no purple hood for that year?
HSR
No purple hood on the 5,6,7"s

Hmm, I would be a little leery of this, what other things is he not telling you about..... dunno.gif
Could be some more costly repairs coming up, that light switch assembly is not cheap to replace (cant remember what it cost)
And why does it have the blue hood? I call BS on that he "wanted 500 decals to have a sleeper look" :cn:
Supe_cool_loyd
Im goin to talk to him tonight Ill post what other BS he tells me then I give him my $.02 hahahaha

Yep the 500XC was non-ves and the 45th 500XC was ves. The 600XC was ves and the 45th 600XC was the non-ves big block. Very confusing!

Anyway, I owned a 2000 XC6 and it was a great sled. Cornered much better than my 2001 XC6 Edge and was VERY FAST for a 600. I raced a lot of other 6s and 7s and very few beat me. Won't take the bumps like an Edge but still holds it's own and corners like it's on rails.

The hood, lights, etc would have me a little concerned. i would want to know what's wrong before laying out the cash.
Spanky
I have the 99 XC 6 and it's been down for whatever I can throw at it. As long as ur up on the shock rebuilds and normal pre-season maint and keep everything tight she runs all day. Like other people have said very fast and hard pulling for a 600. This sled was made for the woods, and it throws down across the lake, but when the washboard comes up hold on and have your Back doc on standby. :div20:
