Got my Phazer Mountain Lite finally running today and what relief that was. It came with fouled plugs blacker than the ace of spades. Someone over in Anchorage must have been starting and stopping it way too many times. Hard to believe a brand new machine had such black plugs. They were also wet with fuel so am not sure exactly which of those two problems had stopped it from popping even with starter fluid.

Anyway the good news is it's running and sounds great. The bad news is how extremely hard it is to get at those spark plugs. Spent hours getting it done or so it seemed. First off couldn't figure out how to remove this Left Top panel as it had a hidden bolt that couldn't be reached until the windshield and another top panel behind the headlamp were removed. Then there is a wiring plugin at the spark plug cap that must be disconnected. Then the spark plug cap hold-down bolt must be unscrewed and removed without dropping it into who knows where it would go. This feat couldn't be done with the 10mm open end wrench supplied in the tool kit. I had to use a 12pt 10mm offset box end which got me a better purchase on the bolt which I later found out from the dealer comes Lok-tighted down. Imagine you can barely squeeze your hand into a hole with a wrench and can only turn the wrench less than a flat maybe a quarter flat at a time, and you get an idea of what fun I had. Then removing the caps which extend down into the head maybe 6 inches was no picnic. I still think there must be a coil in each cap and 12 volts is applied to the cap, even though the guy at the Yamaha dealer said high voltage is applied to the cap. Finally getting the special Yamaha spark plug wrench in the hole seemed like mission impossible for a short while also. In the end it was a real pain to change out the plugs....hopefully won't have to do it again for a very long time!
