Going to put my reg on the belly pan but want to make sure there are no dick cops out there giving a hard time about bellypan locations. The rules state around engine and clutch forward of driver so i'm assuming that's ok

Also any problems with them falling off or tips to installing them? This is my first "unused" sled.

After you determine if it's legal in your state consider using our registration plates. Guaranteed you won't loose another set of stickers.

I have Wisconsin registration on my sleds and have put reg. on my bellypan for over 25 years no problems.

Caution the stickers don't stick real good on Cat bellypans, I make a steel plate the same size as the sticker and fasten it to my bellypan with stainless screws and stainless nylock nuts

I've been through at least a dozen check points and no one said this was in the wrong place. I did it again with the new sled. I used a little piece a thin aluminum (steel rusts) plate from a hardware store and attached it to my sled using 4 aluminum rivits. Then stuck the registration sticker on top of this after the plate was attached. In the event I would ever have to remove the registration sticker/plate, you can easely drill out the rivits, and leave only small holes.

NYS reg. stickers look like shit. I actually don't even use them. I buy 2" tall custom lettering (matches the sled) and place them on the side of my windshield. Been through a few checkpoints with no problems. One officer mentioned the size was too small but, couldn't ticket me because I had them displayed. dunno.gif Will probably depend on the cop that checks ya and what kinda mood he is in.

:banghead: custom letters and numbers are not legal in NY.YOU MAY GET AWAY WITH IT BUT IT'S NOT LEGAL. aS FAR AS THE BELLY PANIF YOU DON'T USE A PLATE WARM THE AREA UP BEFOR INSTALLING, LOST SOME IN THE PAST.mY aRCTIC CAT HAS THEM ON THE WINDSHIELD AND THE POLARIS HAS THEM ON THE TUNNEL.Ibelieve the law says this year ,tunnel, shield, pan or hood.Of course it could be Vermont that changed, but I think I read it changed in NY also.Yes NY has some crappy stickers ,but what do you do?
PHAT BASTARD
You r ok to put your reg on the belly pan.you WILL get a ticket if you have it on the tunnel and you will get a ticket if you have a 95 or newer sled and dont have a ugly square NYS reggy sticker.I had a friend ticketed for not enough reflective material on the side because he diddnt have the sticker!

Never said it was legal, you didn't have to yell at me. I got feelings you know.
buchholr
I'm sorry , I tend to type and mix up the caps,I wasn't yelling , I'm just not a typer.Once again sorry.

So if your stickers come off or get mutilated on a '95 or newer and you put different reflectorized vinyl numbers on from an already existing registration, it's illegal? Now you have to re-register it? Replace bellypan because of accident, Re- register?
buchholr
:banghead: Just because NY has high taxes dosen't mean the law maker are so bright.I never put them on my hood, no place to put them due to graphics.I've not seen anyone ticketed for custom #s but I've heard the law on it.We ride NY, Vermont ,and Canada.Never a problem with mine on the windshield and hers on the tunnel. We've been checked offen, due to the loud stock exhaust the 97 ZRT has.But never a problem.Just remember not to look like your having funThe law doesn't like us to have fun.

What the hell are out of state riders suppose to do?

I got my little yellow 07 stickers (2) in the mail and a letter that reads "NYS does not issue your numbers or letters for display to out of state residents. You need to contact your state of residence."

This is fucking stupid! Are you telling me that they only send us out of state riders the little stickers and we're not 100% legal with just those attached to the sled and then the registration certificate and proof of ownership cards in our pocket?

Bad enough they don't accept neighboring state registrations like VT but this is crazy.........

Someone wanna set me straight and tell me what I need to do and how!

Thanks

How I understand this is you just put the NY sticker (the one you are talking about) next to your home state ones and you are legal. Have a few guys from Ohio and that is all they do.

That is all you have to do. :div20:

I don't even use my new sled in MA so I only registered in NY this season!

Someone mentioned that I had to purchase numbers and stick them on myself? I guess I'll call the NYSSA about it because I don't wanna get hassled. Last year I only put the little sticker (got 1 silver 06 sticker from the Albany DMV) on the windshield but I was never stopped to know if it was correct or not.

Note to any Old Forge/Inlet riders: Check your permit card for the proper Serial # as mine had (2) mistakes on it and I wrote it very clearly on my application............

To be honest they look the best there and also are easier to read there but I know first hand that they are ticketing people on tug hill with them there.I've also talked to a Steuben county sherrif that told me he would ticket me if i diddnt move mine last year. Its bull s$%t but the law does say hood or belly pan :banghead:

Whats it going to cost me when I get hit with the ticket? I'll have to take my chances

just play dumb. 50/50 chance of getting a warning. I think the fine is over $200? Not worth it for me

According to the NYS Parks & Rec. laws that have jurisdiction over snowmobiles in NY, this is how it is worded:
Sec. 25.17
Reflector material of a minimum area of
sixteen square inches mounted on each side of the cowling. Registration
numbers must be reflectorized, and such numbers or decorative material
may be included in computing the required sixteen square inch area.
-------------------

So, custom stickers are LEGAL, so long as they add up to the correct amount of material.
To answer the original post's question,... the belly pan is also legal. But use the advice of the many here that suggest using the plate or plex-i-glass to rivet to the plastic.

This is a pic of my "custom" registration stickers. These are identical in size and material to the ones I had on my last sled. I did manage to get "pulled over" by the friendly ENCON officer on the trail a few times on my last sled. Never were the custom registration stickers an issue. I think as long as they (ENCON) can clearly see your reggy, they wont bust your ba##s. These decals were made at Truck And Autowares in the Wilton mall in Saratoga (Exit 15 on I-87). They blend in with the factory decals enough to be not so noticeable, yet are clearly visable to Johnny Law.

I have always put mine on belly pan.
Use an aerosol adhesive spray on the sticker and they won't fall off.
CHRIS6641
i was wondering about the belly pan placement too, the aluminum plate idea sounds good snostomper..
CHRIS6641
hey sled solutions how close of a match are the green reg plates to an arctic cat green bellypan? have any pics?
snostomper
chris, here is a pic of my new reg sticker. You can see the rivets under the reg sticker. Also, I trimmed my sticker about 1/4 inch on all 4 sides making it even smaller. Color for the plates for reg stickers may not be necessary if you trim it down to the size of your sticker. I wonder if the plastic plates may break if impacted?
