I was looking at the inside of my air box and I noticed that it doesn't allow that much flow to the throttle bodies. Do I need to have that shelf and cones in the air box? It looks to me like it would allow a lot more air to the throttle bodies if I take it off. If I need to have it in there please let me know. Thanks. Andy

On any efi sled, dont mess too much with the airbox. The efi's put out more power than the carbed version in stock form. Leave that shelf in. It's plenty of air for your engine. And, it will run better with it in.

the airbox doesn't restrict performance if your sled is stock.
you're asking for trouble if you mess with it.

bullshit.
EFI sleds run pig rich,stock.
D&D told me to toss it. i did,and ran the hell out of it in -6* (six below zero) at 2500 feet of elevation. with no sign at all of a lean condition. and that is with a D&D pipe and chip that should already have leaned it out some.
it pops in or out in five minutes,so take it with you when you go ride and put it back in if it looks loke you are going lean.
just pull over and check your plugs regularly on your first ride or two,to keep an eye on it til you feel comfortable with the change. buttrock.gif buttrock.gif buttrock.gif

i ran with mine out all summer on the lake, didnt run lean at all.. plugs were never showing it. although my plugs did have some H2-O on them... think i got water in my motor from takin the shelf out? LOL

i ran my 98 ZR600 efi without a shelf for 3 years. i also had twin pipes, reeds, billet heads and ported cylinders. it never had a single meltdown due to being lean.

then it became a 678 big bore and continued to run perfectly with no shelf.

Does it make a noticable difference without the shelf, I never really considered takeing it out as I have the BM hot rod chip and did not want to fuck with things.

On a stock machine, leave it in.

the airbox doesn't restrict performance on these machines without mods. removing the airbox won't improve performane because the engine gets all the air it needs already.
