I have a truly hybrid sled and the next project is reverse. I have a 2004 440 pro-xr with a 2003 700 VES engine. The cdi and magneto is from a 2002. It has a team secondary. I also have an oil pump for a 2004 800 VES engine so i think it is capable of reverse.

IMO, a new cdi and button for PERC, a new helix should be about it. The thing that has me concerned is the magneto. Will the 2004 PERC cdi require a 12 or 14 degree magneto. I have the magneto that is used on the 2001-2003 700 VES engine.

I think your confusing the magneto with the stator, they are the same. They have no degree to them. A 2002 stator and up will work on your perc.

A 02 flywheel is 14 degrees.

You need a 18 degree flywheel, 03 up.
A cdi box, I reccomend hot seat performance, see if they have one recurved for a 700 with the det eliminated.
If you buy a cdi with det, you will need a det sensor, or mail to hot seat and they will reprogram the det to be eliminated.
New wire harness from the cdi to main harness.
04 oil pump is reverse capable.
But a 02 pump will work, the fittings on the carbs and engine that the oil goes through has a check valve in them, and oil will not be sucked out the line.
Plus reverse time is minimal.
I use the 02 pump along with my buddies and there has been no problem.

Your helix will work if you grind the notches in it for reverse, you just need to borrow one helix with reverse to copy.

As far as a button I use the ignition switch electric start position to give the cdi a quick ground to send it in reverse, then hit the switch again and forward you will go.
This is as long as you don't have electric start on your sled.

sounds like your gonna need a few bucks and you be all set to go backwards... :beerchug: i too thought about putting perc on my 03, just didnt seem worth it..

installing perc on the 03 motor is pretty damn easy since the actually make a kit to do it... a tach (not required), wiring harness changes (you'll have to buy this as the plugs are completely different on the perc cdi), new cdi, perc button assembly and a team clutch w/ perc helix in it...

Problem is he said hes using a 2002 ignition, meaning he's probably running the 02 flywheel which is 14 degrees, so he needs a 18 degree flywheel also.

sounds like he needs to figure that out first.... seems like an AWFULLY big hassle to buy an 03 engine and swap out the ignition to 02 just to work with that cdi box (which can be had really cheap in comparison to the ignition)...

i bought the 03 engine and it was missing the electrical + pump + carbs etc. Just a new crankcase+ cylinders. I had access to a cheap 02 electrical so I used that. Now, I have a line on a pretty cheap 04 cdi and, if it is not too much trouble, I may as well do the reverse.

I am not happy with my recoil so pulling the engine to install the flywheel is not an issue.

the 04 cdi has perc already in it (unlike the 03 which had a cdi change)... all you need is the 04 ignition system and wiring harness... should do ya fine...

If you're pulling the recoil assembly, may as well install the 03 starter pawl so you dont suck the cord in if you pull it while the engine is in reverse...or just make note of not touching the cord when its running in reverse. Sounds rediculous, but I've seen people do it.
