Hey guys, my friend is asking me to post on here with hope of getting his 93 Summit 583 running better. He just bought it last year from a local dealer for $1100. We've taken it up sledding a couple times just as a spare sled for some friends and it seems to run real real doggy. We've been on 800CC sleds for the last few years so we just assumed maybe the 583 was just a real dog. But we've come to the conclusion it's definitely not running right. I know this is a vague scenario, but does anyone have any ideas? What we should start checking first? Plugs have been replaced, plug wires haven't. Carbs are clean. Fuel lines are good, filter is clean. He took it in to get some clutching done last year and it sat there for 2 weeks and had nothing done to it... So ya. What would you all check first?

Low compression= horsepower loss, as well as weak spark. Your clutching could be off for you riding condition. If you have a powder sled set up for deep wet snow, it will not perform good on a fresh groomed trail with that same clutch. the jets could be set up for the wrong elevation too.

Try jetting the carbs diferently

Cant be a 93? There were no summits in 93.....94 was the first year I believe!

94...... I have a 95

Mine use to foul plugs like crazy, switched to a BR7ES plug, no fouling since. Also take the carbs apart, the jets are probably clogged.

How many miles on the sled?

I know my 583 rips pretty good for being 11 years old and only being a 583.

Check the buttons on the secondary. How many miles does it have? Does it have many miles on it? Either clutch spring could be worn out. I had that happen with my old 583 summit and it wouldn't run or hold RPMs and was sluggish. Compression is awlays the first thing I check. I also saw a polaris that had cheap spark plug caps that were loose on the plugs and bouncing around; it was causing the machine to miss badly.

Hope something solves the problem,

JE
