I've never specifically been in Ascutney, but you should have pretty easy access to the western part of windsor county. When you get into Reading, Plymouth, etc, the riding is some of the best in the state.

Just south of Ascutney, Springfield, was my home base for two seasons. Weatherman pointed out some nice areas. I have to check a map for you, but there are some spectacular trails no too far away. Not sure if you still can, but in the past the top of the moutain was accesible from fire service road and there was a very nice view from up there. If you make it up there, don't try to ride off into the woods upto the antena towers. It is a walking path and you can quickly and easily get stuck - I know all too well.
Pray for snow because last season there wasn't a single day you could ride in that area and the year before there was only two maybe three weeks.

as weatherman mentioned, there are some great areas not far from you. however, i'm not sure the mountain trail still has access. i did the ride once when younger, but for various reason the VAST trail over to it was shut down. maybe you'll have a special way of getting there as you live so close. as crazed mentioned, it's the fire road that all visitors use to drive up in the summer. the farthest you can go is the parking area... it was a good ride. was always dangerous though with people going fast. last time dad was up there (ie: 7-8 yrs ago) a couple of people were killed in a collision. the cat dealer dad was with couldn't even identify the two sleds. ouch.

This is kick ass ! Vermont threads make me feel like I have a purpose on a forum LOL. Anyway, i'm born and raised in springfield(still here in fact) and everything is pretty much accurate. You can get almost to the top of ascutney on the windsor/brownsville side but it's just an access road so you have trailer there....really a wase of time. As far as ascutney riding weatherman nailed it. You can get on the vast trail just a ways down the road in brownsville and roll over to reading woodstock area. If you have the time, riding down towards londonderry (mt. tabor) area is usually pretty good too.

that intersection by the garage has a left turn to springfield, right turn to reading. are you saying one of these trails has a feeder off it leading to the mountain? if so, please elaborate... very interested. if i can get there without trailering i'd do it again.
the view of it from my house.

Sent you a PM
Is there still any decent riding around this area? I see the post is quite old so I didnt know if things had changed. What type of riding is here? Tight and narrow, open, lots of road crossings and towns? Thanks for any info.
