i know last year there was some talk about making the registrations reciprocal agian. did anyone hear the outcome on that? :beerchug:

not going to happen anytime soon.

NH already has reciprocity built into their statutes. If other states honor NH registration, then NH will honor theirs. Unfortunately, every time NHSA brings it up, there is no interest from other states. In most other states, snowmobile registration money goes into their general fund and is not earmarked for the Trails Bureau and F&G like it is in NH. So politicians are not likely to support something that will reduce money coming into their state coffers, even though the net impact of reciprocity to border town economies could actually be greater.

I thought I read somwhere last year that NHSA , the NH legislature and the maine legislature were all on board for reciprosity BUT the MSA was NOT? Anyone know if this is /was true? I know a former club pres. from a boarder town in maine and he was on board but said msa was not.

I thought there was 1 trail, along the NH and Me border where there was reciprocity already...sort of a "had to" situation where there was no way to keep the trail open because it zig-zags over the border.

Maine and Nh parted reciprocity because of NH's inability to keep the system pure of non-residents registering their sleds with resident status...the reciprocity was only extended to legal residents of the State of NH. When a non-resident registered a sled in NH the issueing dealer was supposed to "cut off" the corner of the decal with the "R" in it, this didn't happen reliably resulting in Maine wardens finding registered NH resident owners with out of NH licences, proving that the system was flawed. So they pulled out of the reciprocity agreement!

corridor 19 through Evans notch from Conway is in Maine and is reciprocal and maintined by NH groomers and the commerce trail in colebrook for the VT sleds but thats it that I am aware of.

Thats why it's important to tell the owners of these businesses that we (NH registered snowmobiliers) would patronize their businesses a lot more if they could start a grass roots movement to re-instate reciprocity. You're absolutely right, the lawmakers will never do it on their own...they have to be told by the constituants that that is what they want!

The problem is...Maine is so big...there aren't enough voices to be heard from the border towns along the NH border...and the rest of the state does better without reciprocity!

And they will not do that.
It would be like going in the office and asking for a pay cut.

so... are there any states that honor a NH reg as of now?

seems like the only people bothered by this issue are NH residents.... if one state honors another, they should all honor them ... like mass/nh... nh/maine... mass/maine...... it will never happen!!!!!!!

Yes, there are other states that honor NH registrations. :div20: Unfortunately I don't have a list of them at the moment. :banghead: As I recall most are out west.

All of the Canadian provences honor NH registrations, so you don't have to register your snowmobile anywhere in Canada. :div20: But, you still have to buy a trail pass as that is how they fund their grooming operations. :div20: Unfortunately most Canadians don't know that they can also ride in NH for no extra cost if they are registered in Canada. Yeah I know, why would any Canadian want to ride in NH? Maybe to explore an area they have never experienced? dunno.gif Just like us? dunno.gif

Don't forget, that includes a liability insurance policy.

Lets see, NH is close to a 100 bucks, and we are lucky if we can ride fo 10 to 12 weeks.
For a Few Dollars More, another 100 you can ride from mid Nov to late April.
Wide, Fast and very good snow conditions, well worth it!!

As for the Insurance, we use too be able to send in proof of insurance and you would get a 40 to 50 dollar refund, but not no more...

NH and Maine should just do a 20.00 trail pass over and above the registration, split the money or just have whatever state issued the pass keep the proceeds for grooming.
NEXT PROBLEM!!!!!

Common sense solves all problems.

There are two trails on the border with Maine that allow riders registered in either state to ride on them. One is the Evans Notch trail mentioned above and the other is northwest of Berlin near Success Pond. If you look on the state trails map, you will see these trails noted.

Regarding the commerce trail, VT pulled out of that deal after the first year so the commerce trail has not been active for quite a while.

However, VT has agreed with NH on reciprocity for the Easter Seals weekend (Feb. 2-4) on selected trails. There will be a local map of VT reciprocal trails posted when you cross the border from NH to VT and a similar map will be posted on the NH side of the border. There will also be guided rides on both sides of the border over that weekend.

or buy a registration in 1 state and have a 20 dollar charge per extra state instead of a whole new registration

Thats what I meant 1 trail pass for NH and Maine for 20.00 plus the regular registration, Vermont could be part of this as well. A tri state trail pass for 20.00 that would allow you to cross all 3 states if you have a valid state registration from one state. Let each state sell the same pass and keep the proceeds for trail maint. or grooming equipment. I would gladly pay 20.00 to cross back and forth from Maine to NH.

I think you are going to have to up each states trail pass for out of staters to at least $60 to $80 before the states will even give this idea a second look. :banghead:
