old man is gone but you can ride the bike path to franconia from Lincoln in good conditions. not sure how much riding right in lincoln but in the right conditions PLymouth/Rumney 15miles south on the corridor has good riding as does twin heading north. twins better on the weekdays, little crazy on weekends.

Dave-unless you are in the area for other reasons that snowmobiling keep heading up to Pittsburg. I don't think you will find the type of trails that you are looking for in any of these areas, not exactly what that mach Z was intended for. Besides, how are you going to be the king of Back lake if you stay two hours south of it?

Ask your neighbor Dana, he comes to Pittsburg a few times a year, you would not like the area your talking about, lots of rental people that get tired of sking, when they have snow.

I do not recall what the trail numbers are, but if you head south from Lincoln on your sled, there is a trail that takes you up to Russell Pond Camp ground.
You ride down the mountain from the camp (5 miles) on unplowed roads, and then you come out to Tripoli Road (Un-Plowed). You can ride that all the way to Waterville Valley.

the trails around indian head get shitty really fast because of all the rentals. if your going to go there leave early and head north to twin mt and towards gorham its a good day ride. but be prepared for some not so good trails on the way back. if theres good snow id get on the railroad tracks and ride south to plymouth, theres some nice trails and loops around there.

i've had a place a lincoln my entire life and that is where i ride when i dont go to north country. I definetly agree to get out early and avoid the lincoln area from late morning on. some trails can get really bumping, soft, and crowded a lot of the time. My normal route is go north past cannon and head up to twin. Make sure you stop by the basin and walk around and take pics, then stop again at the mt lafayette bridge for pics. The ride actually works out great because if you leave in the morning you'll be hitting twin around early lunchtime, depending on conditions of course. then hit up the rail bed and try out cherry mt after eating across from bretton woods. then by the time you head back it will be afternoon and the trails past the basin in the notch will beat you up and when you get to your car/cabin you wont want to ride anymore. it kinda works out perfect. then hit up truants or the woodstock inn--good food, atmostphere, and drinks.
