About 2 weeks ago a friend of mine had his trailer and 2 sleds stolen out of his front yard in Deerfield NH. A 2003.5 BM rev 800, 01 ZR600 and a pretty much brand new Triton clam shell which had all been chained out front and for sale. Trailer was unregistered and nothing was insured at the time.
Its pretty amazing how stupid thieves are lol. The Rev did not have the tether when stolen, apparently these idiots tried getting around the system as wires were cut. Getting nowwhere with that, they load the sled up on the stolen trailer and head over to Bickfords sports center. Bickfords is literally about 5 miles from the place that the sleds were taken, also the sled was originally purchased at Bickfords. Well the poor customer service at Bickfords had these fella's on their way once again, they had gone to another dealer(not sure which one) again no luck. This time they tried Freedom Cycle in Concord NH. The folks at freedom recorded the vin and looked into these guy's request for a new tether. When they did whatever they do with the vin, of course the real owner of the sled becomes apparent(these guys even had a fake bill of sale). Freedom said they would get back to them in a day or two. The guy at Freedom had known my friend from a previous job so gave him a call and got the full story. Anyways the cops were notified, the thieves were called and told to bring the sled back to freedom so they could verify the new tether would work. So once again loaded up on the stolen trailer. they delivered the stolen sled right into the arms of some awaiting undercover police. BUSTED!
Well the cops executed a warrant on the residence of this 19yr old from Pittsfield NH where they found the 01 ZR600 also belonging to my friend, there were also several other sleds at the same site, it was unknown at the time if these sleds were stolen or not. I've got a feeling some granite staters maybe getting thier stolen sleds back though. The thieves ended up scratching the vin off the trailer, and cut into the wire harness of the rev. The ZR was pretty much untouched. Big :div20: to the guys at freedom cycle, as this same sled had been to two other dealers including the place of purchase without being identified as stolen. These guys smelled it out from the get go and now these scum bags will no longer being stealing sleds for sometime.

Thats really good news to hear, a rare ocurrence to catch someone that way.
Most dealers unfortunately are more foused on getting people turned around and out to pick up on stuff like that. I think we all know people who have had problems and attempted to "mickey mouse" a temporary cure by screwing around with a wiring harness, so thats not an automatic tip off.
Hat off to the guys that took the time to pursue it, and ulitmately recover the sleds! :div20:

I certainly thought he'd never see his sleds again. Was pretty sad cause he was trying to sell them even though he didn't want too, then to have them ripped off was a double kick to the groin. I really hope the other sleds recovered were also stolen and still have thier vin so they will be returned. Neither of my buddies sleds had the vin altered, just the trailer so hopefully some other people will be getting some good news as well. This 19yr. old from pittsfield was charged with 2 felony's and some other lesser charges. To be so brass as to take the sleds in the trailer you stole to a dealer right down the road from the place you stole them is pretty unbelievable, that and the trailer had no liscence plate on it.

That is great that someone finally got busted for stealing from this sport. Heres to ya Freedom :div20:
It sounds like they were young and stupid. If that's the case they should put a good scare into them, and hope it straightens them out.
Now if it was a organized crime, Then take out the hammers and hammer down. :div20:

I remember this morning about 2 sleds and trailer that got stolen in Vermont on Nov.8th. The trailer was recovered less than a mile down the road that same day but sleds are yet to be found. Apparently they switched trailers and took off. I posted that thread in Vermont about this news and provided the link. You never know these punks could have their sleds where they live.

Had a friend get a 4place a 3 sleds stolen, it had a giant POLARIS sticker on the rear door. They took it off, but it was still very apperent that it was there. They ground the vin # off, and re-reg as a homemade trailer. Never seen a Renegade enclosed 4 place that someone made in their garage. 2 weeks after they stole it, his employee was going home and on a lonely back road he come up behind a trailer going slow. After a while following it, he noticed the faded sticker issue. Talk about luck.....he call police and followed it. Sure enough, 3 miles from where they stole it....recovery. All the sleds were in the scumbags garage. Guess he picked the wrong way to go home that day!!!!!! He lost some tools and a generator but got his toys back.

Young and stupid????? Don't think so. These are punk scumbags that I'm sure, have a record. What "young and stupid" kid or kids are going to steal snowmobiles and a trailer the first time out?? I say throw the book at them.
"A good scare"?? That's the problem with our legal system nowadays. Too many cottonheaded pinko judges think that their good scare will straighten out these kids, until it's too late.
I wonder if the judges that met Michael Addison along the way tried to "put a good scare into him", and hoped that it straightened him out?
It was a long week at work.....
