Just picked up my ripsaw 136" 1.5" track I know nothing about clutching or gearing..... What should I change and how should I ask for the new parts.
Thanks
bonz50
gear it... go to a 1.80+ ratio... is the rest of the sled stock???
LoudnFast
Yes it is stock... Just ask the dealer for a 1.80+ ratio gear? Can I keep the stock chain...
Thanks
bonz50
look it up on a gearing chart for the pro-x... stock is 1.70 i think... i'd drop one on top and add 1-2 on bottom... that should getcha in the ballpark
PolarisNut
22/40 will give you a 1.81

Won't he need a 74 pitch chain with the 22/40? Is the stock chain on the 700 a 74 pitch? I know the 800 comes with a 76 pitch chain.

His profile says 600, so thats what I was going by. But yes, it requires a 74P.

if you're not looking for all out top end speed (guessing not since you long and paddle tracked it) i would go with 22/42 gears and keep your stock chain. it will save you $70 on the chain price. also, gut your airbox and clutch it. if you plan on playing in powder on the hills, run an EPI blue primary spring 175/285 and some 60-62 gram weights. run stock TEAM secondary spring and a 66-40-.46 or 64-40-.46 helix depending on altitude.

Oops, my fault, I thought we were talking about a 700. :frech32: :banghead:

You'll have to have a severely stretched 74P chain to fit that. A 22/41 will fit and be tight, however. Can't go over 63 total teeth for the 74P chain in the Edge/ProX.
AKRAY4PLAY
PN,
i think LnF was reffering to using the stock 76P chain to cover the 22/42. it will fit, but the adjuster is way in and puts lots of curves in the chain. just a fluid friction thing for perfectionists not wanting to loose that little bit of power. you can reduce it by going 22/43 for a way safe set-up and super hard out of the hole.

LnF,
you can either way 22/42 or 22/43. the 22/42 is faster of course. if you go with the 42 and your chain does not fit for some reason, the dealer will usually take the gear back as long as you do not run the sled with it. just check with the parts guy first about taking the gear back if it does not fit your chain.

Why not run a 23/42... 1.83 gearing and you can keep the top gear?

Unless I'm missing something here, he's got an 04 ProX6, which has a 74P chain, not a 76P like the 02s.

The stock Polaris top gears are junk, IMO. They are made from powdered metal (bottom ones are too, but they seem to be OK) and they wear too much. The aftermarket ones are cut metal and are much better (EPI or TEAM). You'll end up with less shavings floating around too.
